Deciding what road to take, graduating soon

Hi everyone,

I graduate nursing school in May.

I currently work as a nurse Extern and applied for an apprenticeship at the hospital, but have not heard anything back and none of the recruiters are responding to my e-mails. I applied for another residency at a different hospital to avoid "putting all my eggs in one basket" so to speak, and got a call today and am being interviewed tomorrow.

I'm torn because I had my heart set on the apprenticeship for the hospital company I currently work for. I told my manager that I intended on staying there as a new nurse, but I don't want to bank on getting a position in the apprenticeship. I'm also torn because I feel guilty about telling my manager that I wanted to stay and then I may not be staying.

Im interested in the place that is interviewing me tomorrow, which is why I applied.

Should I accept a position if they offer me one tomorrow? Should I tell them I am considering other offers and that I will be in touch? I don't want to lose the opportunity.

I am so confused!

Specializes in PICU.

Go to the interview at the other hospital.

Even though you have told your manager you are interested in staying, you have not had any official call backs or interviews scheduled. Just because you have told your manager you are interested does not mean it will be a good fit for you.

Go to interviews, see what other places are like. You may like this place. If the recruiters etc at your current place have not called you it may be a sign that they may want someone else. This hospital that called you does want to meet with you.

If you like the unit and the job then yes accept because that is a guaranteed job, assuming everything else like NCLEX, references, etc are all good.

Good Luck in the interview! have fun!
