Dcccd 2006

Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?

I was wondering if anyone knew what to do if you don't have copies of your immunizations records? I think most of my shots where done thru a clinic that doesn't exist anymore. Any info would be appreciated =]

2 of my friends who went through the nursing program last year had the same problem. They made them take all the shots over. The Health Occupations office made me take mine over for another healthcare progarm at El Centro. They are pretty strict, So you should really call up there to find out ASAP>

EL Centro's Health Cneter does offer them at a reduced rate.

Specializes in Operating Room.

I have a copy of mine that I got from my high school. Luckily, they still had my file in a storage room. I called ECC, and they said that was fine.

I think Dr.'s offices only have to keep records for 10 years. I was born in '73. So...it doesn't matter even if I did know where I got all my shots at. LOL

I finally got someone to answer the phone, and asked her what was the cut off for the fall semester. She argued with me saying, "We haven't had a fall semester yet." So, I explained again what I wanted. Then she said, "Our deadline isn't until August 31st." I said, "No, that's for the Spring." "I'm wanting to know the cut off GPA for the students that got excepted for the Fall semester. (For the 3rd time..lol) Finally the miscommunication ended...I guess it's just still early. lol

Right now, they are at 3.77 with 11 credits of support classes completed. She didn't know the GPA of the support classes. So, if it stays the same, I have a chance.

By the time I register (after A&P 2 is over next week) I'll be at 3.77 with all 17 credits of support classes completed.

:saint: GOD, PLEASE HELP ME GET IN AT NORTH LAKE FOR THE SPRING '06!!!! :bowingpur :bowingpur :bowingpur

I feel your pain. I went through the EL Centro Health Occupations office for another program I did. It was at times a nightmare. Some of the folks at times were quite rude and a bit clueless.

I hope I get Northlake too. The education I got at El Centro was top notch but I don't know if I could take it all again. lol

I'm hoping my insurance will take care of it. I guess I need to call them. I know they would for the kiddos, but since they figure I'm "middle aged" at 31, I can pay for many things myself.. lol

The August deadline is almost here!!!!

I'm debating on putting NLC only. What did y'all do? :uhoh21: :chair:

I really didn't think this month would be stressful! LOL

I think I need a night out! HAHA :beercuphe

I put El Centro as my first choice and Northlake as my second. The lady (keep forgetting her name) who talked at the info session said it would be better to put both colleges down in case your first choice fills up but then you can go to your second choice. She says this has happened several times where people have put only one down but could have gone to the other school. She did say she did call some people who only put one down and told them if they wanted they could go to the other school. She says she is not suppose to do that but she still did so that is why I put a first and second choice. :) I hear you on the night out!!! lol

Put both Fun2care.

Lalajenn is right. They told me the same thing last year at the info session. If you only put one school and you don't get in there, they may call you to offer the other school or they may not. Stack the odds in your favor.

I've dealt with the Health Occupations office before. They can be very 'iffy'.

Put Northlake first and El Centro second since that is really what you want.

I don't know why you are stressing though! With your grades, GPA and as organized as you are, you'll get in way before the rest of us! :rotfl:

I guess I should put both. I'm like y'all, I really want one over the other. I wish NLC had more openings, or I wish I had a 4.0! LOL

I am also debating on whether or not to take a class this fall. I'm thinking about music appreciation...it will go towards the ADN or BSN. ....Do I want to spend the money right now (scholarship money) or have more of the money to pay for the ADN, and let the hospital pay for the class later?

If I do take the class, do I want it a full semester, or fast-track (Oct - Dec)?

If I do take it, that will only leave 5 classes of BSN core classes to take. I need to find out if UTA accepts foreign language classes as the humanities elective as DCCCD does. I have 3 semesters of Spanish. (B's on all of them, unfortunately) lol (The others are second half of history, second half of govt, statistics, nutrition, & chemistry.) I should take Chem, but I don't want to pay $240 plus umpteen hundred for the books right now, out of pocket. lol ...maybe next summer I'll take a chance on chem. (Maybe find an online chem!) lol

My Dr.'s office called yesterday wanting me to reschedule my physical b/c the Dr. wasn't going to be in the office that day (29th). OH GREAT!!! I said, I made that appt a month in advance. I have to have it on that day b/c I'm taking my last HepB shot, and I have to beat the deadline to turn in my application to the Nursing school. OK, maybe I could have rescheduled the next day, but I want to get the application in on Monday the 29th! So, they said, Oh, well, you can see the NP on that day. Uh Yes, I do want to see the NP, I can't reschedule! lol

I'm just getting a little stressed wondering what to do, how to do it, if I'm going to be able to get in, if I can handle it if I do get in......ya know, all the normal stuff! LOL AND......Once I get this application in I will calm down a little. I'm starting to study "Dosage Caluclations" and nursing conversions trying to get a head start on the math. (I hate math!)

Oh, and another thing I need to take, which I'm sure I won't ever take it, is a speed reading/comprehension class. I want to be able to skim a book & actually remember what I read! (OK, dare to dream!) LOL

I can't wait until January! I hope we all get in & can slap each other out of it when we get stressed! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Why not take an online class? I took Music Appreciation online through DCCCD. It was mostly just listening to music and busy work, but I really enjoyed it. I had to go to two concerts and write a poem, but it was not too difficult.

I am going to take nutrition this semester. So we will see how THAT goes.

I can certainly understand just wanting to relax though.

Oh man that doctor's office call would have put me over the edge. I was so stressed about trying to get my packet in on time and I actually put it in not too long ago but it is still stressful. Here I am thinking that they have lost it or I messed up on it. I can't wait till October is here!!

I decided to take classes this fall towards my BSN. I don't have that many classes left towards it so I just wanted to get more out of the way and hopefully it will get my mind off of waiting to hear about my nursing packet. I doubt it but maybe it will help a little. lol I was debating too on taking them because I didn't want to spend the money but thought it would help in the long run to get them out of the way. I was told by DCCCD (always forget that lady's name) to not waste a semester so I went ahead and enrolled in classes.

I am also going over dosage calculations. I am so stressing out over that. It looks so complicated. I hope it clicks soon. I bought 2 books and I hope they help.
