Dcccd 2006

Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?

I am also going to try to apply at the DCCCD for the nursing program. I am only needing A&P I which I am taking right now. I am in the process of getting all of the shots that I need and just did my physical today. I did the CPR class at El Centro last Friday. It was pretty easy. Just a very long day though since it is pretty much all day. It does go by pretty fast though. I also heard the teachers at El Centro are hard. One person told me the reason why they are hard is because they use to be nurses in the military so they have that military mentality going on with the yelling and everything. I just now need to get my shots done and finish A&P I and I will turn in my application. I will be going to the information session on the 11th of July. Anyone going that day? My first choice will be El Centro and second choice is Northlake. El Centro is just a straight shot down I-30 for me. Not looking forward to the parking though. Good luck to everyone!!!

I am so excited to find this thread. I am starting the support courses at Brookhaven in the Fall. I am a sahm of two young daughters and can't do full out nursing school (assuming I could get in :) until the young one starts kindergarten. My plan is to take all the support courses amd pre-reqs in the next three years, and then apply. This should help lighten my load and get me in. I have a BS but didn't take any A&P. I have heard that the DCCCD programs are great and competitive. The info session was very helpful.

I'm actually taking Microbiology at Brookhaven right now. (2 more days!)

Good luck to you with your journey! :)

BTW, sunnyjohn......Brookhaven has an accelerated. I was talking to a guy in Micro. He's taking the accelerated, and is doing OB clinicals (I think it's OB??) and Micro at the same time during the summer.

They do? Wow that is great.

Brookhaven is even tougher than El Centro and Northlake.

Is anyone gonna apply to Brookhaven along with the other program at El Centro?

I'm not. I have a scholarship for the El Centro/NL program. I'm not sure if I could switch it now. ???

If I could and would, and if I had to take chem, I would try to switch to TCC. (It's closer to me, than Brookhaven is...lol)

...BUT, I'll stick with NL! Sure hope I get right in.

I hope we all can! :)

Well I am going to have to take a closer look at Brookhaven. Since I read you post I have been looking over the Brookhaven website. I would have to retake Chemistry (it is expired). I also have over half of the support courses! Whooohoo!!!

How did you get your scholarship for ElCentro/NL???

Thanks for the info FUN2CARE!!!

I received one in around 1000 nationwide HCACares scholarships. (Cousin told me about it through the TEC or TWC..whatever it is now.) They've already closed their scholarship though.

I have a job waiting when I finish in any HCA hospital, basically. (What it boils down to is, I have to work for them around 1 year to pay back the money.)

I chose the school, ADN or BSN, prepared a summary of classes, costs, etc, and submitted my application to try for the scholarship. :) I went with the ADN because I thought it would help me get the scholarship (less money out of their pockets), and quicker to get my RN!

I'm not sure if there are any other scholarships out there like the HCACares, but it never would hurt to call up your local TEC/TWC office.

Congrats on the scholarship and thanks again for the 411 on Brookhaven.

Thanks, yw, and good luck there or ECC/NL. :)

I took some classes at Brookhaven and my professors were really great there.

By the way, I took the NET today, and I think it went really well. :)

North Lake is my first choice, El Centro is the second, and no Brookhaven.

Congrats! :) Did you not get your scores back?

Without looking at the paper again, I think I made 88 on the math and 73 on the english.....and of course 50/50 is the requirement.
