Hi everyone - I am new here but am starting at DNI in the night program in August. I saw some old feedback, and was wondering if anyone has some recent feedback?

i stand corrected...:p

Can I just ask why you would go to the LVN-RN bridge at DNI instead of El Centro? Isn't DNI really expensive? I pay like $320 a semester for the RN program. That's about 1500 total. ?

I don't know about anyone else but El Centro's requirement for med-surg experience is preventing me from going there. I've never worked on a med-surg floor and hospitals in my area are not hiring LVN's. I called the director at El Centro and explained this to her. I asked if they would consider my clinical experience instead. She told me "It seems you won't qualify for OUR program!! Also, there's not a waiting list at DNI nor a "point system" to get accepted. Yes, the money is alot, but I'm determined to do it!!! :D

You know what? That is a very good point. I have been an LVN for one year. By the time I (hopefully) get into el Centro for the bridge, it will be about 2.5 years. I work in dialysis, though. Have been here for 5 years total. Going over all the stuff in the info packet the other day I noticed the emphasis on MS experience. Am I screwed here? I plan on attending the bridge info session at the end of May, so I might just have to wait until then to ask.

Is DNI offering nights/weekends on the bridge yet?

If I remember correctly, I didn't like DNI's choice of pre-reqs...I think.

I choose dni because my science classes are over 5yrs old. i did not want to take them over. i did well on the hesi exam which has science so that lets me know i am refreshed on science even though my courses are over 5yrs.

Another good point!!! They do not have a time limit on prereq's-except Pathophysiology-which is 5 years.I've been an LVN for 7 years and I don't want to waste extra time redoing classes I've already done. They also don't require any Math prereq's so they've got me there!! I hate Math!! :yeah: I've taken my HESI last November and passed-just have a few prereq's to get through. But all my paperwork has been turned in already!!

DNI does not offer night/weekends for their bridge program!! Oh well, I'll have to adjust and find an evening gig!!

yes my patho is only 2yrs old.... I heard that eventually they will have an evening bridge program.

I am starting my 3rd quarter next week of the LVN program, and I wanted to share my experiences so far.

Classroom/skills lab instructors - Awesome for the most part. They will do all they can to help. They do not set you up to fail, in fact if you do your part and study, they will do their part to see to it that you are successful. THEY WILL NOT SPOON FEED YOU. I think most of the negative reviews have been people who thought they were buying a nursing degree, not earning one. Listen at lecture, take notes, go home and STUDY. Then come to them with educated questions. It works every time!

Clinicals - My only complaints are that we get zero hospital experience. Only nursing homes. And when they have nowhere to put you they stick you in virtuals which is the biggest waste of time ever.

Overall - great school, great instructors. They need new/better clinical sites, and the administration needs to rethink the whole "virtual" idea.

Good luck to future students! If being a nurse is something you really want, AND are willing to put in the time and study, I think you have made a great choice!

great post! I agree with you 100 percent! Especially about virtuals. I saved up my allotted hours every term so I could just skip them.

thanks for sharing a positive post. I hope the lvn-rn bridge is the same way. I also had a positive experience in my lvn program at another school. Also cogratulation on your progress.

Hello, I am excited:yeah: to be starting the ADN-RN Program for DNI on 01/19/10.I am an LVN of 22 years. :nurse:.... Any students that have the prereq can start the program. Generic students(non-LVN) will have 5 semester of classes. Where as LVN will have 3 semesters. I also have a BBA(Bachelor Of Business Administration) from Northwood University in Cedar Hill. I am eligible for loans because I am current and not in default. I went to the clinical lab yesterday to do my drug test, I have my schedule and ready for class. Whatever it takes to make your dreams come true you have to do it. Alot of people will complain about the prices:twocents: of the tuition, but it is a private school. The program has just been approved this past year. There will be trials and error, but what you put in is what you can and will get out of it. I plan to get with other students to form some study group, because I know this will be an intense program. The school also accepts prereq from other colleges. The only thing that has a limitation on it is the Patho(5yrs). I love Nursing and helping others....Just post a question and I will help anyone that needs help. I will be in the program and that way, I can keep you guys informed and encourage you all to join. I feel like if the program does well, it will give some of the local programs a run for their money. It will also give other students that have been applying to other programs, that have not got in, other options. Good Luck to all,

Tomorrow is my :hpbday: and I could not have asked for a better gift..."Getting into the program is a great birthday present....Enjoy!!!!:stdnrsrck:

Hello Sugarwugga,

Happy Belated Birthday!!!! How are classes coming along? I too graduated from Northwood University in Cedar Hill and this was one of my questions...will I qualify for Financial Aid. Great to hear!!

So are you going through ADN-RN program without nursing experience? Are you currently a LVN? I am really interested in becoming a health educator and want the clinical background so I was considering a LVN or RN program to get the clinical experience but afterwards I will be getting a Master degree in Health Studies. I believe I heard that the RN program at DNI isn't in the evenings and this is the ONLY way I can make it because I must work M-F 8 to 5 no other options.

I hope you are still enjoying your classes and please send a personal note if needed to answer my questions.

Thanks so much!
