Dallas/Fort Worth Graduate Nurse Residency Programs Winter 2016

Published

Hello all! I have been having a hard time finding any threads for DFW graduate nurse residency job hunts for winter 2016. I wanted to start a thread as a general discussion on where you all have applied in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area, interviews, and job offers. If anyone has any information they can share at all for their search for a GN job that would be so helpful! So far I have applied to Parkland, Baylor, JPS, UT Southwestern and Methodist. I have not heard anything back from anywhere so far. Thank you!

Thanks for starting this thread. I applied at all the same places as you, as well as Texas Health Resources and Medical Center of Arlington. I have had one interview at Methodist (haven't heard anything back...that was 2 weeks ago) and received an email from JPS with instructions to send references and write an essay. This job hunt is so stressful! I have my heart set on NICU or women's services.

That's so great that you have had an interview! I have only had radio silence pretty much from everywhere I have applied. I also got the email from JPS and I am waiting on one of my clinical instructors to complete the clinical reference form so I can turn in all of my stuff. This is all so nerve wracking because I am not sure what timeline to expect from every hospital or when they plan to be done with interviews. I also have my heart set on women's services or NICU, I'm just hoping that everything will fall into place soon!

My interview was for the OR. I have been told by others who have gone through the process before that women's usually interviews last. I was told that med surg and critcal care gets first pick. We shall see, I guess!

I thought I'd update this thread in case people are reading it and not commenting. I got a call about interviewing at UT Southwestern. For whatever reason I was asked to choose between OR, oncology, and med surg. I had originally chosen women's services but the recruiter said something about that not being available. Originally I took that as the residency doesn't exist anymore but after thinking about it he could have just meant that I was not chosen for it. I also got an email that my L&D application for Parkland was forwarded to the hiring manager. So far I have learned that that does not really mean much until Parkland contacts you further. Anyone reading please feel free to share your experiences/updates!

Hey! So I've applied to pretty much all the same as you. Had an interview at Cooks a few weeks ago but didn't get it. Had an interview this week with Baylor and have one next week with Methodist. Never heard anything back from parkland or UTSW. So no worries we'll all get something soon enough and end up where we belong!

Here's my update: didn't get the OR position at Methodist which was fine with me because I decided I wasn't going to take it anyway due to the call requirements. Interviewed at THR Arlington last week with women's services, and then with the Observation Unit at Methodist this week. Received offers from my last two interviews, and am going to take the position in women's services with THR. Never heard a peep from Baylor, Parkland (other than the emails) or UTSW (other than a phone call asking me which unit of women's services I wanted to be considered for.) I have a BSN, GPA 3.7, volunteered at Cook's (which is when I realized that I did NOT want to do peds), no tech experience, previous career in a very customer service-oriented profession. I was honestly surprised how crazy competitive these internships are. Good luck everyone!!!!

I think it truly is just a God thing , we'll end up where we belong. Because like I was shocked I was even chosen to interview for Cooks, my gpa is only 3.12

Like we truly don't know why they pick who they pick for interviews or what makes them decide to give offers. Lol just going into this blindly. But congratulations on your job offer with THR!!

I totally agree. I was offered a job at UTSW for their med surg/ progressive care residency. I got a call yesterday from Baylor to do a phone screen for med surg but will not do it because I already have a job offer in med surg. It doesn't make sense how they pick people to interview. I don't think it has to do with gpa so I have no idea what they are going off of. Congrats on the job in women's services those are hard to come by! I will have to trust that we will all end up where we are meant to. I just need to stop stressing about it!

I was looking at the Parkland web site at the critical care residency program with a friend's daughter in mind, and it stated that it is done once a year, starting in August. Perhaps all of their residency programs follow that same timeline?

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Moved to first nursing job assistance. Best wishes

Parkland has a separate critical care residency once a year but the other specialties are offered at other times throughout the year
