Dallas/Fort Worth Graduate Nurse Residency Programs Winter 2016

Published

Hello all! I have been having a hard time finding any threads for DFW graduate nurse residency job hunts for winter 2016. I wanted to start a thread as a general discussion on where you all have applied in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area, interviews, and job offers. If anyone has any information they can share at all for their search for a GN job that would be so helpful! So far I have applied to Parkland, Baylor, JPS, UT Southwestern and Methodist. I have not heard anything back from anywhere so far. Thank you!

Hi guys,

I am also one of the ones still looking for a job!

I applied to Cook Children's and interviewed with them and did not get an offer. I applied to Baylor and have not heard a peep from them either. I applied to UTSW and had not heard a peep from them either. I left several messages with HR asking about interviews and such and I finally got a call back with the contact info of who I needed to talk to. This morning I called and was told the same thing, that they found out last week they weren't having a women's services "class" this round but would offer it next cycle. So I told them I would honestly be interested in another unit such as med-surg if they are still interviewing because as a new nurse I really think any experience will be beneficial. I also applied to Parkland and have an interview this week, so I'm hoping I don't blow that one too!

I had heard that Cook Children's offers positions solely based on a point system of how you do in your interview and the person I just spoke with for UTSW said that they go off a point system for apps when deciding who to call for interviews and that they have 15 spots for over 100 applicants sometimes.

I am going to try my best in this interview for Parkland because I think that is what they will go off of when making offers. I also had a 3.789 GPA and did my immersion/senior preceptorship in a newborn nursery, but have no other experience outside of nursing school. Something's gotta give!

Stay positive about your parkland interview! The fact that they offered you an interview is a good sign! That means they think you will be a good fit but they want to make sure. I think we will all end up where we were meant to be. Good luck on your interview and let us know how it goes. Don't get discouraged!

Ok just a quick update. Just got an interview invite from parkland labor and delivery. Maybe they are beginning that process finally!

Hi all. I applied for just about every position with THR when they opened their residency program in September and was offered a job after my 1st interview. I wish you guys all the best in your job hunt, I hear it is a pretty good season so far. Quite a few from my school which is an ADN program have accepted jobs.

I accepted an offer from Parkland L&D! It's going to be quite the experience but I can't wait

Congratulations. I did my L & D clinicals there. VERY busy place with all manner of outcomes. You are going to learn so much there. Good luck.

PS-One tidbit I learned at Parkland L & D: When a woman says the baby is coming, please believe her. ;)

I know this is an older thread but if you happen to read this, can you give me any pointers for THR? Was your GPA average or above average? What experience did you put on your resume?

I'm so discouraged! If I would have know that basically the only way to get a hospital job in DFW was through residency programs I would have applied while still in school. I'm from San Antonio & it's not as competitive as Dallas. Not even close.

Hey there! I know this is an old thread but I just accepted a position at UTSW with their adult medical residency track. How are you liking it so far? Any tips? Thank you!!
