i am wondering if anyone can shed some light on the cost of a nursing license in d.c. as well as how long it takes to receive it and any other particulars you would care to share.

also what is the job market like in d.c.

i see how expensive it is to live there. are the wages comparable?

in the last few years i have been doing psychiatric via travel jobs. are there any possibilities to continue this?

I can't tell you much about the pay because I'm still in school, but I can tell you about the rent. I pay $770/month for a smallish efficiency (that includes all utilities). That is pretty much as cheap as it gets if you want to live in the city and in a reasonable neighborhood.

DC is a GREAT city to live in though. Very cool that I can say I live on the same street as the Prez (albeit 30 blocks north).

There's tons of fun stuff to do and most of it is free, which might make up for the rent if you spend a LOT of time doing all that stuff.

Hi, I just applied for my DC license through endorsement. Call them as the other post reply states and request a form. YOu do need 2 passport photos, copy of a driver's license, and a copy of your orginial nursing license. YOu need an verification from your originial state of licensure sent to them. The cost for this process is 176.00. You need to make a check or money order for this amount. They told me it would take about 2 weeks. The form provides a great check list. I hope this helps.

If you intend to work in the next few months after applying you will also need to possibly apply for a temporary nursing license which will include fees in addition to the 176.00. DC has a notoriously long response time of more than three months via mail. The last three people I know who just got their licenses had their applications lost multiple times by the DC government despite sending it express mail certified return receipt more than twice. They all had to go down in person and prove they had paid the fees multiple times as well. Last I heard they had not gotten their refund for the extra payment.

If you have all of the paperwork in hand and are willing to stay and wait, you used to be able to hang out and walk out with your license. Typically waits were four plus hour with no access to bathrooms. This is also true for DC DMV.

With your next renewal you will also need to have 30 CEUs.

If you get upset with the current lack of service you get to blame your current legislator where you live now because DC does not have representation. Funding for the DC government comes from personal property taxes of 200,000 people and less supplementation than PR and other US territories. DC provides services to a minimum of 1.5 million daily visitors and federal employees and legislators who cannot be taxed but drain the resources and infrastructure daily. In other words DC deals with the equivalent of the Popes Funeral Daily.

I think every US citizen should live and work for a time period in DC to see how badly the residents are treated. I moved out when some neighbors lost their home due to a minor Hill fight and funding for fire and rescue was delayed. This resulted in a nearby station being closed and equipment not serviced. The truck from the next closest station broke down in route.

Find their phone number and call! They are quite helpful. I went down to the office. If you live close by just drop into their office. I recieved my license very quick. Good luck

No, any kind of paper work takes more than a day. My license arrived in about 3 weeks. Its best to show youself in person to get this done but you dont have to. Just call them. Calling has always helped me too. YOu dont live far away do you, in Maryland??

nope, only maybe 45 min depending of course on time of day and traffic too.

If you live in the DC area, take the time to drive to DC, once you have all of your paperwork together and bring the stuff into the Department of Health yourself, in person. You can get same-day service (or nearly same day service) if you have everything done, and you bring it in yourself.

Otherwise, it can take months, and you get into issues like lost licenses in the mail etc.

Again, be sure you have everything in order before going there. That can be the toughest part.
