Anybody apply to Cypress College or is planning to? I was dumb enough to go the first day, and even though I was a half hour early, I ended up waiting a good 4+ hours for an application. Probably not the best set up I've seen, but whatever, this is the school I want to get in! So, here's the thread for Cypress, and wishing nothing but the very best to all us 2011 hopefuls!
If you check out the transfer center page it has the different check sheets which list the courses you need to certify your GE. Those along with your nursing classes are probably all you need in general. Some programs, such as CSUF require Chemistry. (Each one is just a little different on what they require.)
After researching a ton of different programs in So Cal, as well as some out of state - I decided on Cal State Dominguez Hills, the program is primarily online, just a physical assessment class & public health hours you must do in person. I want to work full time while doing it, so it seems doable! I also really liked the program Vanguard has set up, you focus on one class at a time in 4-6 week intervals, but I really can't justify paying $27,000 for their program when Cal States are only around $3,000 a semester, making it less than half the cost!
Basically you'll just need to research things out and see what fits best for you!
Quick question for anyone who might know.....I have a B.S degree already and want to pursue a career as a N.P. I looked into BSN programs, (CSUF, CSLB, Biola University), and all the programs were impacted. So I decided to take the RN/ADN route. If I have a BS degree already, do I have to still get a BSN degree to move on to my masters? Or could my B.S. degree satisfy anything?
I think that you still have to get that BSN somewhere before you get the Masters. I'm actually in the same boat as you, and if anyone could prove me wrong, that would be amazing...
There are a couple programs that are a ASN--> MSN bridge, but I remember that being 3 years, and the schools that I saw offered it were Mt St. Mary and Azusa....so both private schools.
Jessica - you're awesome!! Thanks for answering everyone's questions so thoroughly. That's really thoughtful of you. Everyone else out there...guava, thaismile, etc ... are you bringing anyone with you to orientation or are you going alone? I don't know if I should bring my husband or not ... and judging by the "Christmas-time" beard he's sporting right now, I might be more embarrassed than anything else ; ) So maybe I'll just leave him at home with the dog.
Cal State Fullerton has an ADN-->MSN program that combines BSN and MSN courses in an accelerated format. If I remember correctly, this program also takes about 3 years.
Hey Meg! Missed you on the boards!
I was actually wondering the same thing. The boyfriend really wants to come see what it's all about, but I have a feeling we'll just leave the significant others at home and just let them tag along for family night. I didn't see anything about bringing in anyone for orientation, so I don't want him to feel like an oddball there either!
I had an unpleasant experience with -------- before I applied to the program. She wasn't rude or anything, I just felt that I was yet another number to walk through her office and that she just wanted to rush through to get to the next person.
I'm glad to know the exact version number because now I don't have to study the version 5 book I got on accident.

UCLA had a good one, but I think they ran out of money and closed their program...
