Anybody apply to Cypress College or is planning to? I was dumb enough to go the first day, and even though I was a half hour early, I ended up waiting a good 4+ hours for an application. Probably not the best set up I've seen, but whatever, this is the school I want to get in! So, here's the thread for Cypress, and wishing nothing but the very best to all us 2011 hopefuls!
Well, my friend said she'd buy it for me as a xmas gift. =DYeah, as for the commuting situation, I'm sort of halfway between Saddleback and Cypress. So I said I'd goto whoever would take me..
Guava, I live in Yorba Linda. I'm not sure if you're on the way to Cypress or not but if it's reasonably close-ish and I get accepted, I'd be happy to carpool with you :)

I live in Placentia, right on the border of Yorba Linda so if we both get lucky (and Im sure crossing my fingers!!!) I'd love to carpool with you :)
And as for the TEAS test, I didn't want to spend all that money on the study guides so I went to borders and bought a general nursing school entrance exam practice book for 15 bucks. It says it is for the TEAS, HESI, and some other ones.
Once you're in program you don't have to worry about registering at all! I'm wrapping up my 4th semester as we speak, (YAY!) and even if somehow mysteriously your class "closes" you can get an add code on the first day of school. (Has happened to me once, not a huge deal, you just have to be registered before you can go to clinical!)
TEAS didn't seem to be an issue for anyone in my class, but I guess we wouldn't have met those who didn't pass. I did get the book ATI offers just to brush up & I passed with flying colors. What I've been told, if you passed high school, you can pass the TEAS! So don't worry!
I live in Yorba Linda & trust me, if you can find someone to car pool with do! My best nursing school friend and I have carpooled since 2nd semester and it's AMAZING! Not only do you save money on gas, but you can take the car pool lane, and the 91 is absolutely awful between the hours of 7am&8am and again when you're coming back home!
ALSO, to those of you waiting, I highly suggest making sure that you have all GE requirements met to transfer out to another university (so if you look at the transfer center page on cypresscollege.edu, you can pick either the CSU or IGETC check sheets and go from there). In this day & age you should all expect to be minimally getting your BSN. A majority of magnet status hospitals in OC (St Joe's, UCI, St Jude soon) are only hiring BSN's and this is becoming a trend. Anyways, my point being is that there are different pathways, and all the health science counselors at Cypress are going to do for you is make sure you have your requirements met to to get your AS, NOT TO TRANSFER. I have 12 units I need to finish out before I can start my BSN, so be smart and ahead of the game ready to transfer!!
And also if I may say so, take things a week or even a day at a time. This program is not easy, but it's doable! You need to stay on top of studying, don't procrastinate, read the text and I promise you will succeed! There are soooooo many rumors out there, and I know I've personally made it my goal to not try and freak out the newer students. Yes, there are going to instructors you don't like or can't get along with, yes there is going to be material you hate, tests you fail (heck anything below 74.4% is failing!), but if you were able to get through your prereqs, have a passion to help people in need, and are a caring individual you are going to make a wonderful RN! Just keep your head up and get through things, because before you know you'll be done, it literally flies by!
Good luck to all of you!!! See some of you at orientation on the 16th!! Bring your listening ears and some paper to write notes on, you're going to feel overwhelmed - but LOTS of your questions will be answered!
hey guys so do we wait for instructions for which classes to take for nursing? It feels weird not registering on my day anymore haha
You'll for sure need Nursing 191 (Pharmacology 1), 192 (Fundamentals) & 193 (Intro to Med/Surg). (193 starts the 2nd 9 weeks though, so you may want to hold off registering for that.) Plus there may be supplemental classes for 192 & 193 (you'll have to look under health science courses, NOT nursing for that) which I highly recommend, and also you should register for the open skills lab, where 1 unit = 27 hours of time, so start off with that and register for more later if you need it! That class gets you time to practice in our lab which trust me, you really really need your 1st semester!
But to be honest with you, I'd wait to register until you go to orientation on the 16th. They will break it all down for you! If you're accepted to the program you definitely for sure 100% have a seat in the class so there is no rush at all in registering! :)
Yep, I know McRomeo!! Awesome guy!
I have a job awaiting my graduation/IP/NCLEX results at St Jude in Fullerton! Was in the last group of people who were hired into their work study program... it's so sad that hospitals really aren't doing those programs anymore, awesome experience and great way to secure a job, dang budget cuts!
Hopefully your classes will see the turn around in the job market, I've heard this is really rock bottom right now, so people are having a really tough time finding jobs. They're out there, but few & far between and definitely not your dream job. Once you have a year of experience as an RN though lots of doors open up!

My Intro to Nursing instructor told me that most alternates end up getting in. Cross your fingers (I know I am!)
