Cypress College

Anybody apply to Cypress College or is planning to? I was dumb enough to go the first day, and even though I was a half hour early, I ended up waiting a good 4+ hours for an application. Probably not the best set up I've seen, but whatever, this is the school I want to get in! So, here's the thread for Cypress, and wishing nothing but the very best to all us 2011 hopefuls!

i remember asking something similar in a counseling session and she said on average, 25-26 was competitive. This time around obviously, it'll take a bit more...

I am in the program and started this semester. I was an alternate and had 25 pts. there are 50 in my class, 40 off the points list and 10 people off of the chronological list. Keep in mind, if you dont get picked for the spring semester, you will have a great shot at starting in the fall. dont get too wrapped up in all of this. It sounds like you guys have all your ducks in a row and should not have a problem getting into the program. even if you are an alternate and dont get in this semester, you will stay on the list for fall.

Thanks for the info leahfull! How are you liking the program so far? Where are they having you do clinicals?

neato! Thanks for the info Leah!

Hi guys,

I was wondering if you could answer a question about the points system at Cypress?

For the additional criteria, there are a max of 5 points awarded, and 5 possible ways to get these points (healthcare degree, foreign language, experience, etc.). My question is do you get all 5 points if you have met any one of the additional criteria, or is it 1 point each for each one you have completed?

Thanks so much!

Hey LBgirl -- you get one point for each one you have completed. So if you qualify for having healthcare/volunteer experience, you get a point....if you qualify for the foreign language part, you get one point... if you've taken extra classes in the areas they've outlined, aside from the pre-requisite & g.e. classes, you get a point per class...etc etc. Hope that helps!

Thanks meggiemarie! You answered my question perfectly! :)

just to clarify the extra 5 points- health care experience, degree in health care or foreign language gets you 5 points. extra classes and life experiences are worth 1 pt each up to 5 pts.

So far the program is fantastic. The instructors are all really great and super helpful. My clincal time is at Placentia Linda, but the other sites this semester are St jude, los alimitos/anaheim memorial, and saddleback in san clemente.

Hey Leah! I got one more question for ya. How does your schedule look like? Is it more like a Monday-Thursday 8am-3pm thing with rotations on the weekends? I'm curious because I'll most likely have to cut back on my work schedule, which is primarily on the weekends.

First quarter of first semester goes something like this....

-First 3-4 weeks, you're involved Monday through Friday.

-When you start clinicals the 4th week, depending on your clinical site, it will be school m-t off wed (but you go to clinical sight to pick patient and then have to do prep work) and clinicals either thurs only or thur and fri.

thanks for the info! Are the first 3-4 weeks of monday-friday a whole day thing? Or is it more like a 8-2 thing?

Looks like I'll definitely be taking some time off of work!

Usually it's an 8-2 thing...plus studying. Some days you have to be there at 730.
