Cypress college RN program

Published

Hi just wanted to see if anyone has applied to the RN program at cypress. Maybe we can talk with each other as we sit and wait for a decision. I just applied Sept 1st and am turning in docs tomorrow. We gotta stick together ladies!:yeah:

oh and where to get a certificate of criminal background check? Thanks again and again and again....

Hi midz well I did it 1year at a time cause money gets tight around the holidays kids and all. :) but it cost $35 a year I believe so either way and to get the background check they ave you a paper to go to mybackgroundcheck.com follow the directions on the paper and they will email you a certificate then you print it out and turn it in

Oops! sorry. I should have read all the papers they gave us. Anyway, are there any classes offered in NSNA during the 2nd year? I can't decide if it is worth it to get the 2 year membership.

And one last question (I promise), what kind of scissors do we need? Is it the bandage scissors?

You will absolutely want membership in your 2nd year because we offer an ACLS and PALS class as well as an orthopedic class and EKG which all benefit you. Some of these classes don't really benefit you in your 1st year it's much better in your 2nd year. The orthopedic class is great in 2nd semester the material is part of your final. Oh almost forgot yes bandage scissors the ones with a curve

Also with nsna we want you to be part of the board if you so desire then you would be included in our decisions about stuff for our classes. You don't have to be part of it but it's always an option

Questions about uniforms:

1. Does the top needs to have a collar?

2. I found a top that I really like but the fabric is so thin that the undergarments are almost visible. It is not a scrub though. Would that be fine if I will just wear a white shirt under the uniform?

3. Can we wear scrub pants? I know scrubs are not allowed, but I could not find any pants that doesn't say it is not a scrub pants.

4. When buying uniforms, does everything needs to have the same brand? (I'm worried that the colors will not match)

5. How many set of uniforms do we need? (How many times are we going to have clinicals in a week?)

6. If you already bought your uniforms, how much does it cost you? (I want to have an idea if I am paying fair or more)

Answers are so much appreciated.

Hello student-17,

I will answer your questions based on what I understood on the nursing session and with the help of a nursing student currently going into the second year,

1- I do not think the top need to have collar. They want us to buy a top that has either zipper or buttons.

2- I will probably do the same, buy some kind of a white long- sleeve undershirt if it gets little bit cold.

3- do not worry too much about the name. Make sure the pants have an elastic waist.

4- no, I am having the same problem. I bought a cherokee top with a different brand pants. I have to tell you, the colors are slightly different and it looks tacky to me and cheesy but I have no other option. I looked into three stores in addition to looking online with no luck. I currently purchased only one set until I find something that match.

5- they said we need two sets. As I said, I only bought tone for now. But, I definitely need another just in case something spill on them(blood for example), I have a spare one. As far as I was told, 2-3 times a week. However, the first three weeks are going to be in the school monday through friday.

6- I purchased one set of clothes( one top, one pant, and a watch) they cost me around 75 dollars. I still need to purchase the shoes, and I think I will not buy the nurse mate shoes even though they are recommended by a large number of nursing students and nurses in regards to their comfort level, but in my opinion they are extremely hideous.

Feel free to ask more questions. It is better to be informed.

The top needs to be uniform I do not think it NEEDS a collar but most of them have it. I recommend going to The Scrub Shop Buena Park mall she is very reasonable, knows exactly what you need and will sew the patches on for free. I bought 3 uniform sets a lab coat shoes and a few other random things like the pocket kit with a flashlight and pen. It was about $200 total but I got 3 uniforms and the lab coat you only need 2 uniforms. 2 is a minimum because you may have 2 back to back clinical days and if you got bodily fluids on one you need a backup. Trust me you may be to tired to wash and will be so happy you have extra pair. The brands don't have to match just has to be white. Te1990na is right as long as you can't see through it or wear a white tshirt underneath

Thanks te1990na and Gizelle22. I just have few more questions.

1. Can the top be a snap front?

2. Can we buy the uniforms now at the scrub shop in buena park mall, then just go back there once we have the patches so that she could sew it for free or should we wait after the family night before buying uniforms?

3. Can we use a jacket instead of a lab coat?

You can go buy them at the Scrub Shop and leave them there and go back and drop off your patches after family night. If the jacket is uniform material like a lab coat it would be fine but it will need a patch as well. Yes a snap front is fine. Seriously just go to the scrub shop she knows what you need by memory just don't get the googles we don't use them

Happy New Year to everyone!!!

I'm shopping for books, and I learned that the med surg by lewis has either 1 or 2 volumes. Are they the same? Which one will you guys get?
