Curry College ACCEL Class of 2012

Published

Hi everyone!

I just received my acceptance letter to the Curry College ACCEL program for a January 2011 start, class of 2012. I am 99.9% positive I will be accepting this offer so I thought I'd spark up a thread and reach out to other students or alumni of the program. Please feel free to post what's on your mind!

I am sooooo relieved to hear that =) Whenever I say I will be commuting from Brighton to Milton, people look at me like I'm crazy! Any chance you are selling your books or you have any helpful reading material to suggest before the program starts? I think some of the textbooks might be ones that will be helpful down the road so you'll probably want to keep them as resources... Just thought I'd ask! Do you find living in Brighton more convenient for clinicals?

Hello ACCEL 2012,

I'm Ryan, 29 yrs. old from Plymouth. I teach high school Spanish but will be making a career change soon! I can't wait. Got my BA from Alma College in Michigan in '03. I was sooo excited, but after just reading the message boards about all the people graduating and not being able to find jobs:( What do you think about that? I try to stay positive, but we're spending tons of $$ hoping to be able to find a job upon graduation. Anyway, I'm gonna read up some more and look for ACCEL class of 2010 and/or 2011 to see what they're saying. Can't wait to meet you all and get started!

Hi Ryan!

I am so glad that you found this forum! Since we such a small class (only 32 students), I've had a difficult time finding my future classmates. I totally understand your concern but I really don't think we have anything to be worried about. In my job, I see how selective hiring managers are when interviewing new grads but think about how competitive the Curry ACCEL program is. Out of the 400+ applicants, you were chosen. I know looking for a job after will be on a whole different scale but I truly believe that we will be highly competitive candidates. Just in comparision to traditional new grad RNs, we will have so much more experience in the workforce and the education from our original degree. And being fluent in Spanish is a huge bonus! You've got to think of the program as an investment not an expense. These next couple of months are going to drag by... I am so ready to start!

P.S. I created a group on the very popular social networking site that must remain nameless due to restrictions on AllNurses.com. I'm sure you can all figure out what site I am referring to so please join the group! The group is called Curry College ACCEL Class of 2012.

Hi Everyone! I was also accepted into the Curry College ACCEL program beginning January 2011. I am currently living in San Diego which has made it impossible to attend financial aid orientations and meet with any other students. I am moving back to the Milton area in early September, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone could help me with a few things. First of all the total cost of the program is $38,500 right? And did you get financial aid? If so, did you get enough to cover the entire cost of school? I have never used financial aid before but it seems they are only giving me a total of $12,500 for the Spring 2011 and Summer 2011 semesters. Also, how are we supposed to know how much each semester will cost?

Thank you! I look forward to hearing back from you, and meeting you all soon :)

Hi Kelli!

I posted some information earlier in this forum about my experience at the financial aid workshop... it wasn't so much of a workshop as a information session. They don't have the final cost of the program but I believe we should be able to see it on mycurry.edu when they post it. Check out my earlier post (on page 2). I didn't want to re-post it because it's a little lengthy... I'm just planning on applying for a couple scholarships (not through Curry), using the $12,500 Strafford loans they provided and then getting a Medcap Loan. It's worth the investment!

Completely random question.....well maybe not. While trying to figure out my budget while in school...I considered cancelling my gym membership and just using Curry's gym. But the website states "Use of the Fitness Center is limited to current full-time, traditional undergraduate students". Are we not traditional students??? I'm thinking no.

I *think* that we might be included... I think the people they are trying to eliminate are the part time undergraduate students. I really hope we're included because I was banking on that being my gym (it's supeeer nice). I assume we are going to be paying all the campus fees like traditional undergraduate students so we should get the same benefits!

sorry guys but no go on the school's gym, tried talking to different admin. folks but no progress was made, i guess because we don't pay the full campus fees we don't have access to the gym, :(

also, are you guys gonna be at the Oct. 18th open house? i think myself and a few other current students are gonna drop in for some informal Q&A without any faculty present

i'm currently applying to the ACCEL program, but I'm confused about when it starts. The website says a new cohort starts in January but the application deadline is April 1st. Do they have multiple starting cohorts (winter/summer) or do you really apply a year in advance? thanks for your input since this is one of my top choices right now

Yup...Once a year only. A new program starts every January. They actually pushed back the application deadline. This year it was March 1st, and my acceptance letter came the first week of April.
