I would just like to know how many of you finished all prereq's before starting Nursing School? I have all but micro out of the way, and I'm taking it this fall with my Fundamentals of Nursing and Pharmacology. After that I will have only two Nursing classes a semester.for the next four semesters. Will this make my life a little easier or will it still be as grueling as I have read it might be? Thanks, Suzan

We had to have our pre-reqs out of the way before we could apply. I think the more you get out of the way early, the easier your life will be.
Good luck to you!

We have to have certian pre-reqs to apply, others before we start the program, and still other classes that must be finished before we finish the program. In the third group is micro, humanities w/writing credit, and social sciences. Since I waited so long after applying, I finished all of them by last fall.
I definitely think it will be difficult, but I'm sure it's doable. I'm wondering if it might not be easier for you in a later semester when you know what to expect in nursing school, and you don't have pharmacology as well.
Either way, I know you'll do fine.

We had to have all of ours completed before we started the program or you couldn't start. I think it would be just about impossible to take them concurrently with our classes (for students taking the regular full-time progression). I know programs vary though :)

Pre-reqs mean they have to be done prior.
Are you talking co-reqs? I took all the co-reqs prior to starting the nursing program because I had to work full time while in school and it helped tremendously to only have to take nursing courses and nothing else.

I am taking everything that I need before I start the nursing program. It will take me 4 regular semesters and one summer semester but at least I will have everything out of the way so that I can focus just on my nursing classes.

Yes, I guess they would be coreq's, I just never heard that term before. Duh, :smackingf I know what pre means, I just wasn't thinking. Better do more thinking straight if I'm gonna be a nurse! :chuckle
Thanks for the input everbody. I know in our school you can take English and Math , Anatomy, etc. along side of the nursing courses. I just wondered how many programs were the same. So did you all have coreqs out of the way, and if so how many courses did you have per semester?

I ALSO HAD TO WORK FULL TIME SO I DID MY PREREQS A FEW AT A TIME AND NOW I WILL BE DONE THEM ALL BY THE TIME I START THIS FALL. HAS ANY ONE ELSE DONE THIS AND IF SO DID THEY FIND THAT THEY HAD AN EASIER TIME THEN THEIR FELLOW STUDENTS WHO WHERE TAKING OTHER CLASSES WITH CLINICALS? ALSO IF YOU HAD THEM ALL FINISH BEFORE CLINICALS HOW DID YOU FAIR GRADE WISE SINCE YOU WHERE ABLE TO JUST WORRY ABOUT NURSING ? :rotfl:
That's exactly what I was trying to find out as well. I kept a 3.75 GPA during all my prereqs, with A's in A&PI and II and Chem, I studied very hard for A&P, reading almost every page of an 1100 page book, I've NEVER done that before, never had to, but I was interested in the subject matter. WE tested on every chapter nearly weekly, with a few chapters we spent a few classes on before tests. I am just wondering how that compares to nursing courses.

Nope. I have one more co-req to finish in NS....patho. AND it will be in first semester, so for me it looks like first semester will be the hardest! But, I guess it oftentimes is anyways!
Good Luck in school!

I took all that I was allowed to.
Micro, Pharm & Professional issues have to be taken in sequence where I am. Although they are letting me take micro early...just wasn't early enough to get it out of the way!!
But for me taking Micro 4.0 & Fundamentals 4.5/4.5 is the better option or I would have been doing this...not too good being married having kids and working.
