CUNY Hunter Accelerated Prog. Fall 2011

Published

Hi! Is anyone else applying for the Accelerated Prog. for Fall 2011?

I am so sorry, I just realized that my post was probably overly alarmist, because I didn't have all of my science requirements. That's why it took me such a long time really. But I also needed to take one writing course AT HUNTER (designated with a (W) in the course catalog) and several other classes that I was amazed I hadn't taken the equivalent of... for instance, a visual/performing arts class, somehow none of my courses translated into their humanities requirement, and there were several others.

I didn't find this out until transfer orientation. I would take a good look at their lower division requirements and make sure your degree coursework will translate into their requirements. As a second degree transfer, they will not take more than 90 credits from your last school. And I do know (unless this has changed, which I very much doubt) that at the very least you will have to take a course at Hunter that is a designated writing course. All students transferring in with 60-90 credits have to.

Just wanted to spare someone the unpleasant surprise I got as a second degree transfer. Although I have taken some really interesting classes over the past semesters, I do think that more of my coursework was sufficient have fulfilled their requirements. Sadly that didn't happen. But don't let me scare you, if you can get in touch with an advisor they will be able to offer better guidance than me for sure. But they will hand you a detailed advise audit at your transfer orientation, and if there are any gaps you will have to fill them.

Hi guys,

So, Hunter does it again... the admissions decision response will not come out until Mid May.

I wouldn't be surprised if they delayed it again! I stopped in today and spoke with the dean in person (she is not a very friendly person). She said, "The interviews will be conducted next week but admissions decisions will be sent out in mid may". How this makes sense I am not sure. I asked the pre-health advisor what this means for people that don't get interviews... does it mean they dont get in. She said "not necesarily" and that "All decisions will be sent out mid may." Now keep in mind, last week she told me the decisions would be made the first week of may.

I am frustrated beyond belief. I am so tired of putting my life on hold for this decision. :uhoh3:

What is taking them so long?!

I forgot to mention one thing, the pre-health counselor also said that "interviews are randomly selected". This all does not make sense.

That's just great. Nothing like having your life and future up in the air for even longer.

As per my long and probably stress-inducing last posts about transfer students, let me put up something that is actually useful: you can check your transcript degree audit/evaluation once you log in to the CUNY portal system. It will show if you are missing any degree requirements.

The link is on the bottom left under SSO Applications for Students, it's called "Student Advisement/DegreeAudit (DegreeWorks)" Once you look over your general transcript, you can click on the "What If" tab, enter the Nursing major, and it will tell you all of the courses that you still need, minus the language requirement.

Hello All,

First time posting. I applied to the Accelerated Program at Hunter starting next September. Just received an email this morning for an interview next week. Anyone else? Anyone know if these are group interviews or one on one?

Secajones, the accelerated students last year had a group interview so I assume this yr will be group. Did you apply as a transfer or are you graduating from hunter this yr?

As a transfer. Are you in the accelerated program this year? If so, how has it been for you?

secajones, when is your interview? Whats your nln score if you don't mind me asking?

No I'm applied for sept also but I didn't get an email about interviews so I'm worried. I'm graduating from hunter this june.

Specializes in AGACNP-BC/Emergency/Trauma/Critical Care Nursing.

I also didn't get an email about the interview......is this a bad sign??? :( But I remember someone said interviews are randomly selected???I wonder is it really randomly selected?

I got the email this morning. They weirdly sent it to my personal email account instead of my Hunter account, glad I caught it. I think there are a couple of rounds of interviews, don't get discouraged yet...

Hi Secajones, when is your interview? Mine is this Monday, and I am terrified. I think it will be a group interview like last year. They will likely interview about 50 candidates, and then take the 32. Last year they asked why do you want to be a nurse and what is your professional experience or something like that.

I can't believe you guys are still waiting to hear - Good Luck. Please could someone give me a little advise as admissions aren't replying - my question is where did you all complete lower division requirements and did you complete them to the letter (women studies etc?) OR did you just complete all the upper division requirements listed?? I have a degree in music already from the UK so have no science prerequisites. I wanted to enroll at Hunter to do them all, but no sure how to go about this - would I be applying for the 'lower divsion' - is there some sort of course name specifically for pre-nursing. I'm not familiar with US higher education system despite living in Manhattan for 8 years. Finally I remember someone saying Hunter dpoesn't offer all the science pre-reqs need for accelerated route - is it microbiology that they don't offer? I'd really appreciate some help Thanks!
