Cumberland University Mt. Juliet campus - adult night & weekends

Published

Hello,

If anyone has any questions about this program, please feel free to ask me. I'm finishing the 4th semester out of the 5, so I have an understanding of the program. Whether its a "big" or "small" question, ask away, and I'll do my best to answer.

This program is relatively new compared to other nursing programs, so there just simply isn't a lot of information online about it. When I was researching BSN schools, I was a little frustrated due to the lack of info. I just want to be a resource for anyone in a similar position. Please feel free to ask me any questions in the thread or through PM. It would probably be best to ask in the thread, so others can see. Thanks

I just called and they will be sending emails out this week with a copy in the mail.

So, they are emailing us their decision? That's interesting.

From my understanding, yes.

I cannot stand the anticipation!!! I check my mailbox every afternoon! Do you think they will accept those of us taking classes this Summer contingent upon completion of our Summer courses, or do you think they will say no and have to reapply for the next semester? I had that happen to me with the Radiology program at VolState so I said forget it and pursued Cumberland's nursing program instead. Anyone heard anything yet?

I'm know!!!!! It's awful waiting. I've been out of town so I haven't been able to check my mailbox. I'm not sure about the summer class thing because I already have a degree. I doubt they would reject people if they are currently enrolled in the class. I've never applied for nursing school though so I'm really not entirely positive.

I've been checking emails every hour and my mailbox daily (and I rarely do that). Two more days!!!

Did they tell you all how many people have applied? I spoke with a girl the other day that confirmed that their class size does not go over twenty, but she also made it sound like they may not have that many applicants. . .

I didn't ask that question. I know I read on here that only 20 people are accepted. I was hoping and praying only 19 applied and we all get accepted lol

I know that their class sizes have been a max of 20. I also know that I sat for the Kaplan twice and there was an astronomical amount of people both times. I know there aren't "as many people" that apply to the MJ campus compared to the Lebanon campus. However, I also like to keep in mind that they are the ONLY school that offers this type of BSN program.

Im entirely too anxious about their decision. I've had everything turned in since mid-March, so they've had plenty of time to review my file. I don't promote violence but if my boyfriend tells me, "Stop stressing, you know you got in!" one more time, I'm going to throat punch him!

I just went back through the chain and didn't see anyone mentioning what their current GPA is. . . . For those that have applied and gotten into the program, what was your GPA upon acceptance?

Also, does anyone know if they will accept a Chemistry transfer credit that was completed online and without a lab?

Soooooo..from the email that was just sent...I'm thinking we won't find out anything until next week.

I got that same email this morning. I spoke with Christie(or maybe Christine, it was difficult to hear her) yesterday and she said that my application went to a review board due to a low writing score on my Kaplan but she said not to worry too much about it because everything else looked great. I'm hoping that means that I will get in but I would feel more confident having that letter in my hand. She said that the review board should meet on Tuesday but she will be out of the office all of next week. She also told me that she thinks that the most they've ever had at the MJ campus was like 16 people that she could recall and that she had never heard of a max because they never end up with that many people. Chelsea was the one that told me the 20 person max but I'm glad to hear that they haven't had more than about 16. She said that Registration Day was July 28th so the review board would need to make their decision quickly and let people know. I explained to her that I went ahead and got my titer's drawn, completed my physical form, and got my tetnus shot and she said I could just bring that paperwork with me to Registration Day. So, I think we might have to be present on July 28th.

In regards to registration, I have taken it upon myself to look up the classes we would be taking in the fall and figure out what my class schedule would look like. From what I can tell, Monday will be Dosage Calculations from 6:00-6:55 and Nursing Foundations from 7:00-9:55 with Thorup and the room listed was McFarland 1. I don't know if that means we will be at the Lebanon campus instead of MJ. Tuesday would be Pathophysiology from 6:00-9:55 with Humes and the location was CUC 211. Then, Wednesday is Health Assessment with Tincher from 6:00-8:55 in CUC 226. With all that being said, I have no clue when lab and/or clinicals would be. The lady I spoke to yesterday didn't know but she said sometimes it's on Thursday or Friday night and sometimes Saturday morning.

Some information I got from a friend that is in her third semester of the traditional program...

1. Thorup doesn't teach to what is going to be on her test. She said you HAVE to read the entire chapter or you will be lost on the test.

2. Tincher talks really fast so she encouraged investing in a recorder. She focuses on structure and function and you have to look in your book to know every part of the structure and function of the body part she is covering. My friend said that if you don't know every part and what it does then you won't be able to answer the questions she asks. She writes her own tests.

3. Scrubs...tops are $34.99, bottoms are $34.99 and the jacket is $59.99. The company comes and has you try on scrubs then they measure you so they can be fitted to you. The patches are $10 and the scrub company sews them on. She said the jacket runs small so get a size up.
