CSUSM ABSN Summer 2021

Published

Anyone planning on applying to CSUSM's ABSN for Summer of 2021? I know it's early, but their priority deadline is Septmber 30th, 2020. I was hoping we could consolidate questions/info on this thread as we go along.

I have one more prereq to go (anatomy this Summer) before my app is complete. Where is everyone else at in the process?

I just applied last Tuesday (6/30) since I was originally planning on applying by August for the Spring cohort. That got essentially cancelled I guess because of COVID pushing back Fall cohort to Spring? Not entirely sure on that, and a bit bummed I won't be at main campus if I get in but also excited to potentially start. Hoping it only takes a week or two for my score back! If anyone who has already applied knows the time frame, I'd love to know!

Hey, the time frame for your scores is within 6-8 weeks but it might take longer. I also applied, however, they said that my application will not go through until August and then it will take another 6-8 weeks for the score evaluation. You can tell what your application status is by logging into your CSUSM student portal and if there are to do items on your todo list or at the [lower left (I think) of the portal].

So they're not having a Spring 2021 cohort at all?

They are but I heard it’s only open to people that applied for fall 2020 since fall is now the start date for everyone that was accepted for Summer 2020

So I got an acceptance letter for the Spring 21 cohort! Woo! I’m heavily considering accepting it and commuting just to get a head start on school. Any chance you would give me a brief “day in the life” commuting from Temecula? How far do you commute when there’s clinicals? What does your week typically look like? Is it worth the commute, or would you have liked to wait for the Summer cohort?

Sorry for the rapid fire questioning ??

Sorry I took so long. I prefer commuting because I enjoy driving and the lower cost of living. You’re not always driving down to school, so it’s not like a 5 day a week commute. Classes start early so you miss a lot of the traffic. It’s not guaranteed, but there is a potential to get clinical sites in RivCo so that is nice as well. I prefer going to the main campus, I know there are more events, study areas etc. clinical sites do change every semester so it’s possible to drive super far but that’s for anyone at either campus.

No worries! Thanks for responding. I submitted my intent to enroll already! I hit up a student that used to come study at the coffee shop (Augie’s if you’re curious) I used to work at, and he said exactly what you did. I figure I’d be commuting anyways so it works out better if I can start that much sooner.

Do you happen to have a list of textbooks that I’ll be needing, or know where to direct me? I’d love to get a head start on the reading since I have so much free time until I actually start.

That was my thought, the sooner I start the sooner I finish, so I’d rather just drive! So there is somewhat of a list but we were told recently not to get any more textbooks yet because they’re changing things up. So I would wait for now. Also don’t bother getting any of the ATI books. The program is no longer using ATI we’re switching to HESI and we don’t know the books needed for that yet. If you want a head start on nursing materials I recommend level up RN Youtube, Cathy parks Youtube, and the straight A nursing concepts boot camp (that opens July 14th and you have to pay but it’s not expensive) also check out nursing student videos on Youtube. They give tips, show you what their days are like, what supplies they like, shoes etc.

Hi everyone! This is my first time using Allnurses. I just applied (7/14) to the ABSN Summer 2021. I originally wanted to apply to Spring 2021 but the application closed so quickly and I missed my chance. I wanted to be at the main campus but really my priority should be to get my degree asap, so decided against waiting till the fall application. My application says [completed] but I do still have to finish Philosophy which I am taking online right now, and Microbiology in fall which I am enrolled in already. I also still have to take the TEAS.. I was worried they won't even let me apply without it, but they told me via email that they can still give you a conditional offer depending on how long you have until you start the ABSN program. Wasn't really aware of this point system thing so I'm nervous too.

It's interesting that they said they could give you a conditional offer! I only have anatomy left and I'm taking it now and they haven't given me anything in terms of my "to do list" or where I'm at in the process. Have you submitted all your official transcripts?

I don' want to give out false info and mislead anyone ? so I will paste what they wrote to me! (It doesn't say they will offer a conditional sorry, I asked about the conditional offer within my question to them, and they answered like this)

"We do not reject applications who still have pending classes. You can apply and send us your official documents as is. Once you complete those classes, you will need to send updated official documents so we can verify and update your application. As long as you have an application on file, we can receive documents after the deadline. We just won’t be able to do an evaluation until we received all documents. You will not need to submit TEAS exam scores during the application process if you do not have any to upload at this time."

I saw on their website that they are accepting unofficial transcripts right now because of Covid, so I sent them my current college transcript for prereqs, as well as my evaluated bachelors degree transcript. I just have to confirm with them that my bachelors degree transcript is in the system! They haven't got back to me yet. They did confirm that my unofficial college transcript has been uploaded though.

Ahh OK makes sense. Once they have the general application anything else can be submitted afterwards is how I'm reading it. Good to know!

Yes that is correct ? Sorry about my initial post, it was very misleading! ? I asked them repeatedly whether they would give conditional offers out to people who have not completed their classes or TEAS, but I guess they never really clarified that part. Would be great if someone actually knew this.

No they don’t offer any conditional acceptances. They go strictly by the evaluation sheet which you won’t get until you submit everything. Even if they did give you an eval sheet before you took you TEAS or something, your points wouldn’t be anywhere near high enough for an acceptance!
