CSUSM ABSN Summer 2021

Published

Anyone planning on applying to CSUSM's ABSN for Summer of 2021? I know it's early, but their priority deadline is Septmber 30th, 2020. I was hoping we could consolidate questions/info on this thread as we go along.

I have one more prereq to go (anatomy this Summer) before my app is complete. Where is everyone else at in the process?

Anyone know anything about financial aid and when we should hear back?

Probably not til fall. Financial aid doesn’t cover Summer.

if you haven't yet, check your mycsusm portal. I saw my financial aid awards for the 21-22 school year already. Also, as far as Summer, we have to wait until we're enrolled to see what we get for Summer (per the financial aid office)

Hi y'all! For those of you that were admitted for Summer 2021, do you know what cohort number we are?

Hi guys! I had recently submitted an updated transcript with a 5 unit course (got an A) that I took during Fall 2020 prior to receiving the acceptance and that was calculated into my "last 60 units" GPA. My total points ended up being bumped up to 37 points. ?

Hey @smolpotato I was wondering if you could maybe impart some knowledge on how you went about this, and when CSUSM sent you a new points evaluation after you sent the updated transcript! I'd appreciate your help!

Hello!

I emailed the person who sent the original point evaluation spreadsheet, letting her know that I recently completed a class. She then asked me to send in my new final transcript and I believe once it was received, the points were re-calculated. I did reach out after I confirmed with Admissions that my transcript had been received. Hope I was able to help! ?

Yes that is definitely helpful! Thank you! Did they send you an updated points eval after that?

Hello- I was recently accepted to CSUSM's nursing program and also National University's nursing program. I am trying to decide which school to attend and was wondering if anyone in the program would be able to provide me with some feedback about their experience with the program so far? Pros? Cons? Thanks!

Hi, I just got your message but I can't seem to reply to it for some reason so I'll reply here:

I ended up picking CSUSM over National for a few reasons. It was a bit cheaper, it had a higher NCLEX pass rate (probably one of the most important factors to me), and they offered preceptor/externship experiences that I don't think National had. I also graduated from the CSU system for my first degree so I was more familiar with it. Overall, I am happy with my choice and wouldn't change it. Professors are hit or miss (I've had a mix of good, okay, and horrible professors) and it can be a little disorganized at time, especially due to COVID (but that's with every nursing program). Nursing professors are needed everywhere so I think regardless of where you go, you'll probably experience these things regardless LOL. Thankfully, none of my clinical rotations have been cancelled. I'm not sure where you live, but CSUSM is partnered with Riverside and San Diego county hospitals for their clinical rotations. I live in San Diego and haven't been placed in Riverside, thankfully. The only thing is that sometimes I do have to drive to the Temecula campus for lab (even though my cohort was accepted to the San Marcos campus), and our lectures are in person some weeks (at the San Marcos campus) and online the other weeks.

Basically, the campus you'll be at for lab depends on what classes you're taking that semester-- and it can be a bit of a drive depending on where you live. Things are always changing though.

So, if I were you-- I would still choose CSUSM! I've met a lot of nurses at the hospitals who have graduated from the ABSN program at CSUSM so that always gives me some hope and is nice to see LOL
