CSUSM ABSN Spring 2012

Published

Has anyone applied for spring 2012 ABSN program at CSU San Marcos? I applied back in june and now that I have seen the average scores for the Fall 2011 program I am in a state of panic. Sure I meet the average for the other cohorts, but I am definately at the low end of the fall 2011.

I just wanted to know if anyone had applied for the spring 2012 ABSN program and how do you feel about your chances.

HI!!

Well studying for a month is good. I studied for a week and took the test, I "Passed" it according to the program; however, I still did not like my score so I retook the test a month later after studying and recieved a much higher score. My suggestion to you is..... DO NOT FREAK OUT lol just stay calm and relaxed that way you get more oxygen to your brain. But I know what you mean, I freaked out the first time I took and and ran out of time on the math section. The only thing that saved me the first time was the reading section, and science. If you are a slow test taker, like I am, I would say tak your time on the math section to get them all right, that way if you run out of time you only miss two or three instead of freaking out and guessing as you go and getting them wrong.

Also, if your major was not science, study anatomy and chemistry. Good luck!!

This is to everyone:

Out of curiosity.... Who here had a major in the Biological Sciences?

@ USMC: I studied for about 2 weeks and then took the TEAS. I scored over the average 85.7%. I would say, figure out your weaknesses and focus on those sections. For me it was the punctuation section. If I were to re-take the TEAS I would definitely review comma usage!

@ Rpelayo: My undergrad degree is a social science degree, but I've taken quite a few bio/chem courses (not the nursing pre-reqs). How come you ask?

amyca,

I am just curious as to the background of the people who are applying, what there major was, how long has it been since college and if they are already in the health care industry or are trying to change their career completely. Or maybe people haven't started a career yet and just decided they wanted to go to nursing school right after their undergrad. Or maybe some people tried to get into medschool and either didn't get in or decided they like the nursing model of care more. Whatever the case is, I think its interesting.

Makes sense! I find it interesting too.

Thanks guys! If I do end up wanting to retake the TEAs do you suggest taking it within this same month or wait a few months in between? I just feel like if I wait I may forget everything, but if I do it a few weeks from now I'll probably have a melt down hahah!

And as for me I got my undergrad in 2008. My degree was in Textile and Apparel Management.. pretty much a fancy term for a fashion degree :( Needless to say in order to get anywhere in that industry its about who you know. Most of my family is in the medical field so after I realized I didn't wanna work in the mall forever I ended up back in school!

@USMC:

If you think you can improve your score within a month, I say go for it! However, if you honestly feel that you could use the extra time to study then waiting can only help you.

From my understanding once they've received AND reviewed your full applicant package (transcripts, TEAS, etc.) they should be able to rank you. (For me this process took ten weeks.) If you decide to send in a new TEAS score after you've already been ranked they will automatically update your ranking to reflect the new TEAS. In other words, you don't have to wait another 10 weeks to be re-ranked.

This information is what I was told a few months back. I'm not sure if they've changed the process or not...

Hope this helps and good luck! I'm sure you'll great.

@rpelayo:

I heard they will be accepting students starting next week. Hopefully the rumor is true! :D

Amyca:

OMG! NO WAY! my stomach just did a flip! Especially because I haven't heard from them yet as far as the Worksheet! *mini freak-out* Well I just hope there are not too many people with a 4.0 or the like. I am at the average for my teas and I WAS at the average for my gpa until this fall! LAME! hopefully my Zoology Degree will count for something. *fingers crossed*

Good Luck!

Just got word That my evaluation arrived in the mail! This is going to be a really long day!

Did they tell you if they will notify us through the mail or email?

@repelayo .. is it the evaluation that would have your acceptance ?! Or the worksheet? I havnt gotten anything yet, but I'm assuming its cos I don't have the TEAs to them yet .

@amyca .is that worksheet your talking about just for your classes to see what transferred and what you may need to take ?

Good luck to you both !! :)

yay!! I got the score I wanted for the TEAS!

I'm pretty much avg with the cohorts now. Are you both avg or slightly below/higher? I don't want to have to re-take the test cos it was so stressful lol. I'd almost rather just re-take a whole class to boost my gpa if I don't make it for the Spring cohort.

If you re-take the TEAS do you guys know if the questions are the same? I think I have to wait 30 days before I retake it anyways.

@USMC: Yay! Congratulations on the new TEAS score! The worksheet that took about 10 weeks to receive lists all transferred classes as well as any additional classes you may need to complete, if any. As long as your application is complete, they should be able to rank you. Hopefully it doesn't take 10 weeks for you to receive it!

@rpelayo: I'm not sure how they're going to notify us. Maybe both snail mail and email? Hmmm... This means I'll probably be glued to my mail box, and computer obsessively checking my emails!

Good luck guys! :D

UCMC: My Teas score was slightly higher than the average.

amyca: when you received your evaluation sheet did it have your rank on there? because I don't see it on mine. They just filled out the sheet for my pre-reqs and the GE's and the classes for the first semester. then they gave me another shee of the nursing classes that was blank and the GPA for my Pre-Nursing Core.....which I am protesting!! They completely screwed my GPA by merging a grade that I had replaced during college that doesn't even factor into my GPA because it was REPLACED not repeated people ( I mean it technically was repeated obviously but I replaced the grade so it shouldn't count how can they average it?) ! I must contest it better be a mistake because I really don't think I will get in if they leave it that way!UGH!!!! I am so annoyed right now.

so does this mean that if you retake a course to try to achieve a higher GPA that they will just average the two so it will be impossible to achieve anything hire than a 3.4? but heaven forbid you recieved a C then retook the class to get and A....so then your average will be a 3.0......meh. ok I am done ranting.
