Hello everyone,
I'm applying for CSULB this Spring, transferring from Palomar College. Just finish all of the application today. Anyone else applies this Spring? Good luck to us all
Just out of curiosity did anyone happen to ask ---- what their ranking was when they scheduled their interview? I read in one of the older threads that she actually told some people whether or not they were an alternate when they were scheduling interviews. I just wanted to see if that holds true this time around, I guess it would be nice to know prior to your interview if you were an alternate.
Also are budget cuts still really an issue for transfers? I thought it was settled already which is why they even allowed them to apply. Hoping this isn't the case because I'm a second degree transfer as well and was counting on CSULB as my top choice.
LA Lis,
As far as I know, being a transfer isn't an issue this time around... The scores are ordered in an Excel worksheet, and the top 90 are offered admission with a handful of alternates, because invariably, there are always a few people who choose another school or do not meet the English and communications requirements. If you are given an interview, then there is a high likelihood that you will be offered admission unless your English is horrible or if you don't participate in the interviews.
I'm a transfer student and I scheduled my interview today. Tuesday at 4 pm. I asked ---- and she said that an alternate list hasn't been generated yet. Which I assume means that they will be making all further decisions based on the interview. I'm so nervous. I REALLY hope I get in. Now, of course, I'm stressing about the CSU application because I'm a transfer and fretting over all the possibilities. SMC's nursing program (AA degree) is my backup, which starts in February if I don't get into CSULB. I'M FREAKING OUT NOW SOMEONE CALM ME DOWN! lol.
pre-nusring-gal,Call ----, dont call the nursing office. They wont answer u anything. Please update any information that u got here. Im a transfer too. Good luck to us all
Will do! However, I have been calling ---- and she was the one who told me she wasn't allowed to answer any more questions. maybe I have been calling way too much
So if you have been called in for an interview, does that mean that you are for SURE either accepted OR on the alternate list? Does anyone know how they select the final 90? Is it just whoever has the highest score (on the scale out of 10), as long as they do alright in the interview? Or is the interview THE deciding factor as to which 90 get in out of however many are interviewed (did anyone ask Monalisa how many were called to interview??).
Also - does anyone know if CSULB still has the partnership with LBMMC where students can sign a contract to work with them when they graduate in return for a stipend for school? I know the amount of the stipend decreased with budget cuts but I wanted to know if they were even still offering it because I haven't read anything about it online for a couple years.

I don't know for sure but I believe acceptance is mostly based on "whoever has the highest score". It seems like interview plays a small role.
Some of us checked during second semester, which was this past spring, and hospital said stipend program is postponed until we're in 5th semester. Hospital units have been closing and staff nurses have been sent home due to low census. I wouldn't be surprised if LBMMC suspend the stipend program indefinitely until economy improves.
