CSULB Fall 2014

Published

Hey everyone!

Did anyone else apply to CSULB for Fall 2014? The school app was due last Saturday, and then we have the month of January to submit for the School of Nursing.

Based on previous threads, it looks like we are invited to an interview about a month after the deadline, and the cutoff was ~9.1 points.

Here are my stats so we can see how we stand this year!

Science GPA: 3.58

GE GPA: 3.77

TEAS: 97.3

TEAS Math: 100

I think that works out to about 9.4 points... the average keeps rising each year, so it would be nice to see where we all fall!

Good luck everyone :)

I was told during the interview that we get to choose whether we want the Basic or Trimester program at orientation. Our preference depends on the spots available. At first I wanted the Trimester because its faster. But after weighing the pros and cons , I think I'm going for the Basic. Trimester BSN program is financially supported through a grant from Long Beach Memorial Medical Center/Miller Children’s Hospital which means that all your clinical are at one hospital versus Basic where you get to experience at more than one hospital for clinicals. The instructors also told us that summer sessions are fast and may be too fast for some students to absorbed--plus you only get one week rest after spring semester to begin and another week rest afterwards before fall semester. I have kids so summer seems harsh. Anyone out there choosing the Basic Program? Also, anyone know when we are officially notify which program we are placed in after attending orientation?

You're correct, trimester program is very fast and intense. If you need to work, like to take mental breaks, or have a family at home then the basic program is probably your best bet. And yes, basic gets a much better opportunity for networking and landing a job considering they are at more than 1 facility for clinicals so that's something to think about as well. The end result is the same, you end with a BSN, but its the journey getting there that is the difference. Ive heard more people end up dropping the trimester program and asking to be placed in basic because of the intensity, so keep that in mind when making a decision! Best of luck!

Hey alternates, have you all received anything in the mail with further instructions? I received an email notifying us that we need to attend orientation in order to hold our spots. I know that those accepted have a bunch of things to complete before orientation, and I'm wondering if/how this applies to us alternates.

I called ------------ last week and she said that there hasn't been any movement on the alternate list. Guess we'll all find out at the orientation.

Has anyone declined CSULB for another school? This wait... :(

I am on the alternate list and I did get that email about having to attend orientation to reserve a spot. I was going to call ------------- to see if my spot had been moved but thanks for the update. I was going to decline another school this week but now I don't know what to do. I was thinking that since the deadline to accept or deny was in June, that the wait list might get shorter as people hear back for other schools. I wonder if most people have already accepted? Did ----------------- tell you anything else in regards to how wait lists have resulted in the past?

Also, I did find it strange that alternates just show up to orientation. She didn't mention that we need to bring anything with us, so I guess we just need to show up to reserve our spots.

I too received just an email saying show up for orientation. What type of things do the accepted students have to get done prior to orientation? I think we will probably know more by June when the deadline to accept/decline arrives and alternates will start being accepted into the program. The wait is so hard! Hopefully people decline so we have a chance!

Hey guys , I just have a question to those who are in the alternate list , when did you find out that you are on the wait list and not actually accepted for the program ?

Thanks

A couple days after the interview in March

Typically for orientation I remember needing all the titers, immunizations, physical and TB tests done. There will be an orientation packet with all the information they will send/post online ahead of time.

Did anyone receive anything in the past couple of days? The last thing I got was that the orientation had a room change to HSC 100.

Yes just received an email with 3 pdf attachments that need to be printed.. one is orientation package, one is nursing handbook, and other is a campus map

Ok cool, I just got it as well. See you on Friday!

Anybody wants to carpool tomorrow from San Diego?????

I'm coming from the other direction, but I would if I were in San Diego.
