CSULB Fall 2012 BSN

Published

Hi!

I think the CSULB School of nursing recently post new pool statistics including those who were chosen for Fall 2011.

Knowing that the rating average is 8.91/10, that seems like a huge difference than the previous semesters!

Anyone else planning to apply to CSULB Fall 2012 BSN program?

I'm at school on Monday, Thursday and Friday. Monday's I have to be at the hospital at 6:30am, Thursday at school at 9:30am and 9:00am on Friday. I do work, but very limited hours. I'm going to try and find a place in Long Beach for next semester but if I'm not able to and we end up having classes on the same day then maybe we can carpool. Good luck everybody!

Oh, and for capstones I recommend Literature and Medicine, and Comic Spirit with Prof. McLoone. I still have one capstone to go but I enjoyed those classes. There is a lot of writing involved in the capstone classes so if you are doing the basic program then you should probably try to take care of the capstones over the summer to lighten your load during Fall and Spring.

As for the interview, don't worry about it too much. I thought I did terribly and I got accepted, so apparently I didn't do too badly.

Here is the link to the orientation packet, it includes the schedule for the program and when they recommend you to take GEs and capstones.

Oh and taking care of Pharmacology, Pathophysiology and Nutrition will help lighten your load during your first semester quite a bit. But if you are doing trimester program, it's the GE classes and the capstones that you need to get out of the way in order to lighten your load. I'm not trying to talk anyone out of doing trimester, I just want you to be informed about how difficult it is going to be, whether or not you are used to a quarter or semester schedule.

Are you in the trimester or basic program? Did you have all your capstones and other course completed prior to starting (pharm, pathophysio, soc....)?

I am in the basic program, and I have 2 out of 3 capstones done already, all of my GEs and I did not do pharm and patho ahead of time, but I did do nutrition already. My friend has all of those done so she is only taking 2 classes this Spring, lucky her. When do you guys get acceptance letters?

I think we are receiving acceptance letters in late April, but I'm sure we'll have clearer answers after the interviews on Wednesday. I wish transfer students could somehow get capstones done ahead of time. Would you recommend taking any capstones in your first semester if you have already completed nutrition and pharm? Or is it better to wait until you get used to the nursing major?

Haha no, no more competition for me. I like it a lot. I mean, sometimes I'm like "What did I get myself into?!", but I've been told that it gets better after the first semester so I'm looking forward to that. I can answer any questions you guys have. OH! And I would highly recommend getting your blood titers done and working on any immunizations that you may need ASAP. Just because you had the immunizations doesnt mean you are immune, so get the titers done. You need Hep B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella. Wait till later to get the Influenza vaccine and the 2-step TB test. This is only a part of the Health clearance required and it can get pretty expensive, so start saving up now.

Thank God I am up to date because I work in a hospital. I refused the flu shot though and I did a 2-step TB like 3 months ago. I know I will have to do it again. All I have to do is when I am working, go to our ER and get a flu shot lol. The TB test is mandatory every so often so I think I have to get it again in the summer anyway.

Ya! I hope they let us know really soon! I am thinking, that logically, since we are all interviewing on one day, there is no real need to take no more than a month to make decisions ESPECIALLY since we are already ranked! They might as well tell us at the interview! Right?!??!?! Thats my thoughts anyway....

I wish we too could get those stupid capstone classes done. You are so lucky to have those classes done! No school around me offers pharm or patho. Only the schools in the OC/LB area....How sucky. My CC doesn't offer nutrition either. If at least two of them are online I want to try and get into them for the summer. I dont know how I will though. If I apply to the colleges down there, my registration priority gets low. With all of the students I dont know how I would even get in.

Oh well.

Whoo I am getting ahead of myself. I need an acceptance first!

Just apply to them now anyway. It wouldn't hurt to get those classes out of the way! I am pretty sure most nursing programs require nutrition so it's not like you would be wasting your time. It's worth a try :)

Plus, it's better to be prepared for that acceptance letter than not!

Damn good idear!

Imma look that up in the morning! which colleges are they again? LBCC? and another one...

hmmmmmmmmm

Both Saddleback College and Irvine Valley College offer online nutrition courses. I believe someone else on this forum said that CSULB accepted their FN 50 course from Saddleback College so I know that one is definitely worth pursuing. I am taking it now and it's not bad at all; however, I am taking it in-person so who knows what the online version is like..

I'm super nervous for the interview tomorrow and I just realized I'm not sure where the interview will be held tomorrow. I just know the room #. Does anyone know what building it will be held at? D:

It'll be at the nursing building which is near the Family and Consumers building and next to Lot 1.

Looking at the map I got from taking the TEAS test awhile back, which nursing building is it? I see there is Nursing 1, Nursing 2, and New Nursing building between Lot 1 and FCS. I'm going to be driving from Rancho Cucamonga so I want to be sure where it is exactly if I run late.:(

Alicekat: Not sure what time your interview is, but I would try to arrive at least an hour early. We all know how traffic is. The last thing I would want is to be late and also have the additional stress of rushing to get there. Plus, parking next the nursing building always seems to be full. (allow time to find parking)
