CSULB Fall 2015 Applicants-Basic BSN

Published

I am extremely surprised there isn't a thread that exists for students applying to CSU LB for Fall 2015!!

Here are my stats, but enlighten me on one part, what does the general gpa consist of? I actually went to CSULB and met Monalisa, but she said the nursing program only looks at eight classes... Maybe I should call to reassure how they calculate the cummulative GPA, but my other scores are set.

Science GPA: 4.0: 4

TEAS Math: 100 : 2

TEAS Overall: (90.7x2)100:1.814

GE GPA: TBA

So far so good, but being that a 3.0 is the cut off gpa for general and science for the program I am giving myself a 3.0/2= 1.5 as a score and my points would be a 9.314 as a default. Hopefully it will be higher.

I did the opposite. I got accepted to both CSULA and CSULB. I live kinda far from both, about 38 miles from csula and 48 miles from csulb, but the 10 freeway is packed so the commute is basically the same all the time. I went to both campuses and CSULA looks and feels like a prison. The environment at CSULB is much more relaxed and friendly. Also, another reason is when I got accepted to CSULA they were changing from quarters to semesters, and didn't know how that was going to affect the nursing schedule. Quick question, did the CSULB nursing department (Ms. Ward) email you with a location of the orientation? I have the date and time, but not the location. See you June 12th.

Do you mind if I asking you the point that you got accepted from both CSULA AND CSULB?

what do you mean the point, you mean the time frame? I think it was around mid march. I got initially accepted to CSULB, placed on the waiting list for CSULA. I then got a call a couple of days later from the nursing program at CSULA saying I was accepted. I think that at that point I was pretty set on CSULB.

i got a call saying that a spot opened up and I accepted it!! I wish all other alternates good luck!!!

Congratz! see you June 12th!

I need your guys' opinions!

I've been accepted to both CSULB and UCI and am torn between the two. I pretty much live in the middle of both schools, so distance isn't a problem for me. Here are my thoughts:

- CSULB: Their program has been around much longer, and is one of the best in CA. Clinicals are at either LB Memorial or at the VA depending on trimester/basic.

- UCI: An all-around great school with a fairly new program. There are lots of amazing potential clinical sites in the area such as UCI Medical Center, Hoag, Kaiser, etc.

Setting aside the fact that UCs are more expensive than CSUs, which would you guys choose? Do you think there is a difference in prestige when it comes to job placement afterwards? Thanks!

Actually with basic you go to different hospitals each semester at csulb. Last year they were at long beach community and this semester they are at a different hospital. You change every semester. I would suggest csulb, but idk much about uci. Good luck!

It's really up to you at this point, but in terms of prestige, I would choose UCI, I know people who have graduated with the same degree from CSULB and UCI and those who graduated from UCI found jobs much quicker than those who graduated CSULB. When potential employers look at your resume, UCI would stand out, but again it's up to you. My friend is finishing her second year at UCI and she truly loves her school. Best of luck on your decision.

Hi if you don't mind me asking what alternate spot did you start out at?

I was number 1 of the alternates. Those that got accepted have until may 10 to decline or accept the offer.

Does anyone know if we are allowed to take Pharmacology and Pathophysiology before we start the program?
