Hi all! I wanted to start a thread for folks who are applying to CSULB starting Fall 2018. I would love to hear other applicants!
That's super reassuring. Another quick question if you don't mind - do you think it's possible to work part time (12-18 hours a week) and still succeed in the program? Do many of your classmates work and manage to balance both pretty well?
It is possible, and there are people in my cohort that do that. However, I do not recommend it. I worked full time (36-40 hrs/week) while taking all of my prereqs, and did not find that to be difficult at all, but I am also someone who sleeps a full 8 hours a night and fits in A LOT of time to study and I am not working. So it also depends on how you plan on managing your time. Another thing is that the students I know who work while going to school have already taken pathophysiology and pharmacology in pre-nursing. I didn't take either of these classes beforehand, so I feel like it would be impossible to balance fundamentals, patho, and pharm while going to school. With that said, it is definitely doable to work 12-18 hours a week, but I highly recommend not working if you are taking both pharm and patho in your first semester. Also, if you need to work, the first semester is probably the best time to because second and third semester are much less manageable in terms of time.
They won't let us know anything today. It's not going to be until middle to late next week. I tell ya, I'm already not liking the admin side of this school of nursing. They had since Feb 10 for God's sake! And some of us live in norcal so we would like to know this kind of stuff at least two weeks beforehand so we can reserve hotels and let our bosses at work know which days we'll be gone. Hopefully the professors won't be as hardheaded...
Hey all, how funny I came on allnurses to look for advice on tips for second semester and came across this. I currently am a 2nd semester student at CSULB and know its rough but just be patient during this nerve wracking process. For my cohort we actually found out we got an interview on march 1st when our interviews were on the 8th. So we only knew a week before the interviews. You've already done all you can up till this point, just breath and wishing you the best of good luck! =)
If you have any other questions I can try to help.

Thank you for easing our nerves. I am local so I can only imagine how others feel not having more time to plan for the interview. I am crossing my fingers to hear back soon :)
