Hi all! I wanted to start a thread for folks who are applying to CSULB starting Fall 2018. I would love to hear other applicants!
hello everyone! I am a current 1st semester student at CSULB, and I'm free to answer any questions you may have! Some tips I have for you since I know your interview is coming up soon (I will actually be there)
-don't freak yourself out. the communication exercise is not meant to intimidate or scare you. it's meant for the faculty to get an idea of how you think and how you communicate (duh)
-make sure you eat a good breakfast and have some coffee to help your nerves
-bring a pencil/pen
let me know if you have any questions about the program or the admissions process!

Thank you for reaching out to us! Do you happen to know when we will receive the invites or when they will start sending some info out?

I'm sorry, I don't know that. My cohort got our invitations very shortly before the scheduled date, I believe about less than 2 weeks. Your interview is on the 21st so make sure you keep that date open.

To the best of your knowledge, is it true that pretty much everyone who gets invited to the communication exercise (as part of the top 80) gets accepted, barring a terrible performance?
thanks for coming on!

yes, that is true but only because there are 100 invitations and 80-85 spots open, so statistically your chances of getting in are very good. It is also believed (but not necessarily true) that spots are already predetermined by the time of your communication exercise and that the exercise is just to get to know how you communicate and follow directions. To my knowledge, even a terrible performance won't do you much harm. There were people in my interview group who did not finish the exercises in the allotted time and still got into the program.
