Csula Fall 2014 applicants..

Published

I posted this in the California forum, but I think it got lost so I'm posting it here!

Who here is applying for the CSULA nursing program for Fall 2014? What are your stats? Have you taken the TEAS exam yet? I'm excited!

I have not taken the TEAS yet, but have my date scheduled for Oct. 25th.

I'm sorry to hijack this thread for just a second but I read everything you guys have written with a lot of interest because I will be applying next year so I have a question that maybe on of you can answer?

I will have all my pre-reqs done for CSULA and CSULB done at the end of this spring except for stats.

I have a 4.0 in my pre-reqs and a 4.0 in my GE's. However, I have 2 W's. One of them is a computer science class (I was in way over my head). And I got another W in physiology. I'm pretty sure that the W in comp sci won't hurt me but the W in physio will. Can someone tell what penalty will be assessed from CSULA and LB for my W in physio? I can't seem to find an answer online anywhere.

Hmmm, I'm not sure. I myself didn't have any W's but your grades seem pretty much in order. All you have to do is get a high score on TEAS and have some volunteer hours and/or medical experience.

But I found something on CSULA's nursing FAQ...it doesn't relate directly to your question but I think it can apply

"A C-minus (C-) grade in these or any required courses is not acceptable. The School Of Nursing will notrecognize repetition of a course when the original grade was a C or better.

Any grade of less than a "C" on a class required for nursing hurts your chance of admission, even if you havesuccessfully repeated that class."

They don't specifically state it, but I'm assuming a W is just as dangerous as a C-. This is probably because of the nature of heavy competition for nursing. They don't even say how much they would penalize you, and this is only CSULA. I'm not sure about LB. This is also assuming that a W is lower than a C.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. I read that same thing. I just hope that a "W" is not considered lower than a C.

Also, for CSULB (for anyone interested), it said that repeated withdrawals to improve one's GPA is grounds for denial of being admitted.

You could always try asking them. No harm in that.

Also I think if you cover all your bases correctly, tests scores and your volunteer and or medical experience you should still have a fighting chance at getting in. The curve changes every year so you never know.

I have 2 holds of admission, one of them is "admission eligibility verif?" What is that? Another set of transcripts I have to send in?

That possibly could mean that the GE on your transcripts must have be to labeled ge certified from the school you transferred from. That is only 1 possibility.(The golden 4 general educationarrow-10x10.png requirement) or it could mean if you have classes in progress, when the quarter or semester is over, your final transcripts from the current term will be known by Admissions to confirm your admission officially. It might also be that. I'm sure you're in good shape.

I think it's the first choice, I've finished everything.

So CSULB posted their stats for Fall 2014:

604 Generic applicants (70 admitted, 171 ineligible, 433 qualified alternates)

* Rating Average -9.39(range 9.92-9.35)

* Statistics for 70 selected students:

Average Science GPA-3.90(range 3.25-4.0)

Average GE GPA -3.94(range 3.53-4.0)

Average TEAS test score -89.85% (range 80.7.0% -97.30%)

Average Math score-93.73% (range 83.30% -100%)

That's about 200 people more than last Fall 2014, but what's interesting is that the stats are lower for this year than last. J, even with your IP C, I don't understand why you didn't get in. Wasn't your rating like a 9.6 or something?

At the latest, April 28/29. so hopefully I can get my sjsu result before the deposit deadline

Hey! How come you want to go to SJSU? Is it because it's closer to you? Or is it a better school in general?

Exactly. I would have a 9.62. The in progress 'C' in a science pre req of 4 units drops the overall score by approx 0.52 points. That gave me a whopping 9.10, which is below the cutoff...

I was told that my 9.62 will be nearly unbeatable, and I will get into the spring cohort without question. Plus, I could still complete the program in 2 years.

However, nobody with in-progress classes got in because of the extremely high cutoff this year. The director told me, personally, that it was the most amount of applicants and highest cutoff they ever had...

I posted the applicant score cutoff from LB a few weeks ago, after I spoke with the director, remember?

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!
