I thought we should start a thread for CSULA ELMN summer 2012 applicants since applications are due next month and I'm interested in talking to other people that are applying. Does anyone know how they choose acceptance- is it based on the same point system as their BSN program? Also, does anyone know if they look at cumulative gpa or just the last 60 semester/90 quarter units? There's a few quarters my sophomore year where I slacked off on some classes, but my last 2 years have been much better, so obviously I would prefer that to be weighed more. CSULA seems to focus more on grades than other schools I plan on applying to as there didn't seem to be much room for volunteer experience, certifications, etc. outside of the essay so I'm a little nervous. Anyhoo, I would love to get to know other people who are also applying & any info from people who have already went through this process before would be awesome : )
hi all!
i JUST received my invitation for interview this afternoon via e-mail, and it seems like ______ is offering interview dates up to the 26th of this month. i'm quite anxious because i realize that i'm probably part of the last group of people she's going to see before any decisions are made...
i read on one of the previous threads that it is a one-on-one interview with the program director... do you see other students there? anyone have any idea how large the pool of applicants is for this application cycle?
i also got an interview for CSUF for their ELMSN program, but it's ~4 hrs long and consists of a group and an individual interview (or so it says in the e-mail....my appointment isn't until mid april)... anyone have any experience with CSUF interviews?
any comments are appreciated!!
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!
an additional question: does anyone know which hospitals are affiliated with CSULA? i'm just curious as to where the csula nursing students go to "practice" on the patients =P i know that the kaiser permanente in baldwin park is affiliated with csulb and some other adult school programs in the area... but i know nothing about csula...
Hi Everyone,
I just saw this thread and am so excited to have others to chat with about this! I was invited to interview just this week and have my interview on March 26th. I read something (I believe from CSULA's website) we will all be notified by April 5th whether or not we are accepted. Good Luck everyone! I hope I get a chance to meet you all! :)

tilapiacooker: I found this response from the 2011 cohort:
"In terms of hospitals, here's where we've had some clinicals:
County/USC - down the block from school (has its own Silver Line Bus Stop)
Verdugo Hills Hospital - NE from school, near Glendale
Kaiser Downey - South of school; I carpooled here
Arcardia Methodist - NE of school, fairly close to Pasadena
Huntington Memorial - In Pasadena, carpooled here for Psych rotation (which ended at night), but it's also right off a Gold Line Stop
Glendale Memorial - Short bus ride from my house
Children's Hospital - right off a Red line stop, about a mile from my home"
my interview yesterday went smoothly (i think)... some of the questions were kind of hard to answer, but i assume that they are pretty standard questions for interviews because the director just wants to know you better. the essay portion, however, was more difficult for me. even though i'm a fairly good writer, it's been a while since i've been asked to write under time constraints, so i was a bit rusty (25 minutes flew by SOOO fast!)
all in all, i spent over 1.5 hours in the interview... the director was very easy to talk to because she was so nice, but now i'm on pins and needles because i don't know what to expect. she told me that her very last interview was on the 26th, and that she'll be contacting people by that afternoon....
so nervous!!
Thanks for the info tilapiacooker- I am assuming I am the last interview on the 26th… that makes me especially nervous! Yikes. I figure there probably isn't much to do to practice for the essay part, but that's the part I'm most worried about… 25 minutes is nothing! Even more intimating is that now on the whole drive back to Monterey (about 6-6.5 hours) I'm going to be waiting for her phone call!

hi jungdt! there are a few reasons why i feel CSULA is a better fit for me than UCLA. the main one being that i'm interested in the NP track. with MECN, i would need to go back to school again in order to become a NP. i'd like to be able to get my RN as well as my NP degree through one program if possible. i'm not in my 20's anymore, so i don't have the luxury of time! i also find the small cohort size to be appealing. i think it's also cool that after 5 quarters, you have your RN and can start working.
