I thought we should start a thread for CSULA ELMN summer 2012 applicants since applications are due next month and I'm interested in talking to other people that are applying. Does anyone know how they choose acceptance- is it based on the same point system as their BSN program? Also, does anyone know if they look at cumulative gpa or just the last 60 semester/90 quarter units? There's a few quarters my sophomore year where I slacked off on some classes, but my last 2 years have been much better, so obviously I would prefer that to be weighed more. CSULA seems to focus more on grades than other schools I plan on applying to as there didn't seem to be much room for volunteer experience, certifications, etc. outside of the essay so I'm a little nervous. Anyhoo, I would love to get to know other people who are also applying & any info from people who have already went through this process before would be awesome : )
@lilpeapods - I'd have to say that UCLA is probably my first choice, but I would be totally happy going to csula - in fact I took some classes there post-undergraduate some years back and thought it was a good school. I'm living up in SF currently, so it all depends on whether or not my fiance can get a job in LA... this whole process of applying has been so hard, so really any positive feedback is really what I need at this point! What about you - is it your first choice? Congrats!!! :)
@anewnurse79 - yes, CSULA is my first choice because they offer a NP track. i applied to UCLA as well. it's my second choice only because there is no NP track for entry-level nursing students. but i'd be perfectly happy going back to my alma mater if CSULA doesn't accept me.
i know what you mean about getting positive feedback... i'm still in the process of applying to some community colleges and was beginning to feel so run down with these past few months of applying to schools. hearing from CSULA was like a light at the end of the tunnel.
Hi All,
I'm currently in the program also. I had my interview mid-March.
Some suggestions:
-They do look at GPA, but they also take into consideration of the overall person (i.e. how well rounded you are). So, they look into your past experiences, such as volunteer experiences and whatnot.
-It's a one-on-one interview with the coordinator.
-She may ask you:
Strengths and weakness?
Why did you could the particular school?
Study habits? Why would you do well in the program?
Are you a leader or follower?
Role of nursing in society?
What would you do if another member of the class is suffering (not doing well)?
Hope that helps!
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking in these boards for about a year while doing my pre-reqs and have read so much useful info. I'm happy to report that I've been invited to interview at CSULA for the ELMN 2012 program. The director emailed me this evening. I'm so excited and so nervous! I am also a Bruin, so it looks like there are quite a few of us from UCLA in the running this year

I was told to select an interview date for next week, but I chose to interview on the last week of February.
