CSULA- ELMN 2012

Published

I thought we should start a thread for CSULA ELMN summer 2012 applicants since applications are due next month and I'm interested in talking to other people that are applying. Does anyone know how they choose acceptance- is it based on the same point system as their BSN program? Also, does anyone know if they look at cumulative gpa or just the last 60 semester/90 quarter units? There's a few quarters my sophomore year where I slacked off on some classes, but my last 2 years have been much better, so obviously I would prefer that to be weighed more. CSULA seems to focus more on grades than other schools I plan on applying to as there didn't seem to be much room for volunteer experience, certifications, etc. outside of the essay so I'm a little nervous. Anyhoo, I would love to get to know other people who are also applying & any info from people who have already went through this process before would be awesome : )

feeling so down :uhoh3: it's nearing the end of the workday today and i still haven't heard from her...

Congrats to those who were called or emailed! This program is my first choice, though I won't hear from CSUF until April 20. So I will definitely be joining this cohort! Yay! I know that the director wants responses by April 2 (Monday) so maybe there is an alternate list at play. Don't give up hope yet if you feel that CSULA is the place for you. I believe that things work out for the best if your heart is really in it.Good luck and hugs to all: admitted or still waiting...

@lilpeapods - ha! no pressure at all! ;) the good news is that having a tough decision like choosing between two schools that want you is NOT the worst thing ever.

I was jumping up and down at work today when I finally got word. I had a feeling I was going to get in based on what K told me at the end of my interview but I didn't want to be too confident till I got the official word. So excited!!! Now I need to plan my move to LA from the Bay Area. The next 2 months are going to be hectic but that isn't to say the next 3 years won't be even more hectic.

Is anyone thinking of starting up a Facebook page for our cohort? Might be a good way to get to know everyone prior to orientation or the program.

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be part of the 2012 ELMN program. Congrats to everyone and I'm looking forward to meeting you all. I was just wondering...for those of you who choose CSULA over UCLA, what was your deciding factor?

congrats, msgbad4u! my reasons for choosing CSULA over UCLA are as follows: NP degree (i'm in my 30's so i don't want to have to apply to yet another program after graduation), the ability to work as RN after 15 months, and small cohort. my family has a hard time understanding why i'm choosing CSULA over a big name, but i'm trying to look at the long term. i have nothing against UCLA (it's my alma mater!), it's just not a good fit for me at the moment.

I've been a lurker here for awhile, but wanted to let everyone know I am also excited to be joining the 2012 ELMN cohort and would definitely be interested in joining a FB group, etc. I'm happy to do it...not really sure how, but I'd guess it's not overly complicated. But this is my first post so I know there are issues PM'ing people when they first register..?

I have been lurking too and now finally going to join the conversation =p I will be joining the 2012 chort too! It's so great to meet half the class on this forum... I look forward to meeting you all at the orientation!

Yes someone should definitely start a FB group so we can get to know each other before orientation. We're all going to be spending a lot of time together come June. Is anyone else worried sick about the cost of the first year of the program? I have money saved up but I will still have to take out loans not just for tuition but for living expenses as well. I would love to hear others thoughts/plans for the financial aspect of this program.

Welcome to allnurses.com janeh and yumm!

I would like to connect with everyone but don't use FB...I have a thing about internet privacy, but I might have to get over that! I did start a gmail address which would be private to cohort 9 and that could be a way to start communicating privately: [email protected]

I'll forward emails to everyone who emails me, so we can get a "reply to all" situation started. Let me know if y'all have better ideas about communicating :loveya:

I am indeed worried about loans to cover tuition and living expenses! Have to start getting my financial aid info in order with CSULA and the banks!

hi guys!

i created a FB group for us. i know people are concerned about privacy, so i made it "secret" so that people can't see who the members.
