Hi all,
I saw the thread for the BSN Basic program, and wanted to start this one. I'm taking the TEAS on 12/20 for the first time (eek!) because I had to take the GREs for my other apps. I saw that the BSN Basic program has a point system. Does the ABSN program have that too? And do we need to sent in verification of volunteer hours too?
Hi @whimsicality and @hklee,
Here are some numbers and background – I hope it helps for next year:
BA in Public Relations – 3.20
Nursing pre-req GPA (sciences) – 3.75
TEAS – 88.7% and 86.7%
(pay attention to their test limits – can only take it twice in 1 year, and at least 3 months apart)
Volunteered with UCLA's Care Extenders for 1 year/250 hours
Currently work FT as an admin at UCLA (so, nothing to do with healthcare)
I talked about my communication skills + marketing career in my essay, and how those skills are relevant to nursing and the nurse practitioner role. I had two strong letters of rec from supervisors at UCLA.
I also applied to UCLA and CSULB. CSULA and UCLA really do review applicants on a holistic basis, so they do look beyond just the numbers. Good luck!
Thanks for setting up the FB page @pistachio0_!
Has anyone heard yet from you know who about applying to the school? Last time I spoke to her she said they were waiting on campus admissions to figure out the process. That was five days ago.
Also for financial aid, do we have to wait until we are officially enrolled at CSULA as students to know if we received any type of aid?
Thank you in advance!

Going off of ShirleyRex's format:
BS in Biological Sciences - 3.45
Nursing Pre-Req GPA (Sciences) - All A's except two B+'s (Physiology and Part A of OChem w/ Lab, it was a 3 part series at my school)
TEAS - 99% (National) and 99% (Program) (I highly recommend the ATI study package)
Volunteered with various programs during college and after. Most notably the Clinical Care Extender Program 1 year/300+ hours. Also held leadership positions within the program.
I currently work as a Medical Scribe.
I talked about my experiences helping nurses/CNAs during my time as an intern and more specifically what I learned about nursing through it all. I did mention my desire to become an NP. I had two strong letters of recommendation, one from an ER nurse I met while volunteering and one from my CCE program manager.
I was debating between USD and CSULA. I chose CSULA because of the NP aspect and the cost! I concur with ShirleyRex about programs looking at a candidate holistically instead of solely focusing on his/her stats! Hope this helps and good luck!

Yes... You are cohort 12. Congrats and see you all at orientation! Like previously stated, look at alhambra, rosemead, san Gabriel, and monterey park! ... Fyi alhambra has some weird no parking over night rule unless you buy a permit so we live in monterey park. Super close by, convenient, and I feel safe! We pay $1600 for a 3 bedroom but that's a very good deal. Expect to pay around $1800 for a 3 bedroom. Idk about a 2 bedroom but I would think its > $600 per person
