CSULA 2015 ABSN Program

Published

Hi all,

I saw the thread for the BSN Basic program, and wanted to start this one. I'm taking the TEAS on 12/20 for the first time (eek!) because I had to take the GREs for my other apps. I saw that the BSN Basic program has a point system. Does the ABSN program have that too? And do we need to sent in verification of volunteer hours too?

Thanks snailszy :)

I'm definitely down for some late night taco truck runs or tea station study dates with you all! See you all in May!

For those on the hunt for a new home, I recommend padmapper.com It's what I'm using, it pulls ads from craigslist, and a bunch of other sites onto one map! Very convenient.

Hello everyone,

Congrats on getting excepted! I'm interested in applying for this school as part of the next cohort. If anyone doesn't mind, can you post your stats please? I just want to see what areas I can improve on to better my application. Thank you!!

@ajt87,

I sent you a PM! Let me know if you didn't get it, because I know you need a certain number of posts before you can messenger.

I did all that but by the time I looked at the properties, they were already taken. I'd recommend finding people to live with early and then just driving around the neighborhoods you're interested in. That's how my bf and I found our current place and it was advertised via sign posted on property. It's in a real quiet complex but the owner is an old dude who doesn't use teh internets.

@lgripe and Current Students,

I have a few questions about what made you choose this program:

*snip*

Now that this is really happening, it's hard to make a decision! Thank you!

I applied to CSULA and UCLA. I got into both but accepted CSULA despite everybody from father to my effing dentist recommending otherwise. I chose CSULA bc of the NP option, the cost (the same as for an RN only license at UCLA), smaller cohort and better NCLEX passing rates. CSULA's SON gives better support than UCLA. Our director is like a benevolent overlord and keeps track of everything you do. ;) She wants you to succeed where I feel UCLA's SON might not even remember your names.

Some are taking time off. I did not think I would at first but I am now considering it for various reasons.

Jobs come from your networking abilities. I don't think many schools help you find jobs anyway.

Hi,

I recently decided to pursue my ABSN as well and have been keeping up with this thread! Congrats on your acceptances. I'm interested in applying to CSULA this next cycle, and would like to know your guys' stats as well and what you feel made your application strong! What areas should I focus on to increase my chance of acceptance? Is it mostly GPA and TEAS score, or did you need relevant work/volunteer experience as well? Is it mostly about prerequisites GPA or your overall? Also, what other schools were you considering besides CSULA? Thank you in advance!

Since I haven't used this site all that much I'm unfortunately unable to send PMs :/ Anyone interested in getting a FB group going? Might be an easier means of communication.

I know @Adnil89 mentioned an interest in rooming with a classmate. I'll be moving up from San Diego and also looking for a place and a roomie! I imagine there are a few others in the cohort that might be in the same boat. I was thinking orientation might be a good time to get to know one another and see if some of us are looking for similar living situations (i.e. price range, location, living habits, etc..), but it also cuts it close since the program starts so soon! I've been considering living in downtown LA, but haven't looked much into it yet. Minimal commute is definitely key for me though!

^ I wouldnt suggest downtown. The nice areas are really expensive, with 2 bedrooms ranging from $2000-$4000 a month. It is minutes away from skid row and it isn't somewhere I'd feel safe walking at night. Also parking is minimal all around. Great place to go bar hopping though!

I would avoid east LA. Again, look at Alhambra! Monterey Park. San Gabriel. Rosemead.

To those on the wait list, I've turned down my spot at csula sadly :(

Who wants to start a FB page?? I don't even know what cohort number we are haha.

I think we're 12! But don't quote me :laugh: A Facebook page sounds great!
