Discussion related to the Summer 2014 start of Cal State LA's ABSN/ELMN program.
So I see a lot of you live near CSULA or lived in the LA area previously. If accepted into CSULA, I would have to move to the area. I've conferred with someone who lives in LA county, but would like some more opinions. What areas are best to live in for commuting? Are safe? I also have a indoor-only, friendly cat, so I need a pet-friendly place. I've looked on zillow, yelp, hotpads, but websites can only say so much. Any advice would be appreciated.
Personally I am partial to the Pasadena area. I live in a town called South Pasadena which is really great for families. I would look into Pasadena near old town, lake ave, cal tech areas. It is really beautiful, great shops, restaurants, etc. You can even get to CSULA via surface streets! From where I am it less than 5 miles, so many areas of Pasadena would be 8 to 10 miles. There are some new condo/apartment developments as well as some older smaller ones. Also - based on the clinical hospitals they have mentioned - many are within a 10 mile radius (or closer) to Pasadena.
Another option would be downtown LA - lots of cool new high-rise buildings going up - neighborhoods getting better (not great, but better). Let me know (PM me) if you have any more questions about the Pasadena area.
@Gettothechoppa- it all depends on what you like. Pasadena is great for families, it also has some nightlife if you live near old town. It's also not as crowded as LA. Downtown is also great and a LOT of new stuff is being built there, but it's still very much in the process of being gentrified so you need to be careful where you live. There's also the silverlake/echo park/Los Feliz area that is just west of downtown. It has a reputation for being "hipster" bit it's VERY accessible to Hollywood, downtown, and CSULA. It's in the middle if the city so it's also more metropolitan than Pasadena. Good if you're 20-something and like to go out. It takes me about 20 min from silverlake to CSULA. Eagle rock and highland park are also great neighborhoods that would be an easy commute to CSULA, they are also a little removed from the city...they're near Pasadena.
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask me any questions.
Okay, sorry for the spastic posts everyone! Guess I can't post and run to my car at the same time haha.
She sent it to me freely! Which was funny because I was in the process of writing her an email and had to check I didn't send it mid-draft!
It was mainly about the health requirements and tuition, but she included the blurb about decisions being next week and finishing up interviews this week.
Well, I guess were going to be masters at patience when all this is over!
