Hi!
I'm about to turn in my application for Cal State Fullerton's EL-MSN 2011 program in person tomorrow (I know...what a procrastinator!). I'm just wondering, are there any CSUF applicants out there? If you turned your application in already, have you heard from the school yet?
I personally did not list any volunteer experience. I did submit verification of work but it was not in the health industry.
Thanks siberiantiger. That's encouraging because I don't have any volunteer experience in the health industry, but I do volunteer with La Leche League which is a breastfeeding support group. I am however a graduate from CSUF and live in Orange County so I know those points will help me with my application. Once I'm done with my classes this semester maybe I can find time to volunteer before the application is due next year? But it's good to know that it's not absolutely mandatory. Wishing you good luck in getting accepted!
Hey SandyMickey! The Le Leche League is such a great organization! I'm sure that should count and would be something unique.
I do volunteer at a local hospital on a nursing unit. I would suggest applying now for a volunteer program and getting hours and experience. The board appreciated when applicants understood how the hospitals work as well as knew what the nurses position was. Definitely gives you the upper hand from what I understood in the interview. But truly not necessary if supplemented with other experiences. Then again I am not on the panel ::shrugs:: but who doesn't like free points
Hi SandyMickey - I have 240 hrs of volunteer at a hospital. I think getting volunteer experience in a health care setting is really important. Not only to max points on your application but to also make sure nursing is really what you want to do before you spend 3 yrs and thousands of dollars on nursing school.
Siberiantiger - thanks for the stats info. I'm surprised there are only 48 people interviewing. I suppose anyone not selected in the 33 will fall into the alternate list. I hope your interview went well.
Good luck to all that have interviews this Friday!
I would stick to Concordia too even though I could walk to CSUF it's so close! I wish I could do Concordia's accelerated program at CSUF because it would be so much cheaper :) I went to an information session back in 2009 and they were talking about possibly doing an accelerated program that would be 3 semesters long but now with the budget cuts and all there's no way. That's actually how I ended up finding Concordia because I didn't even know accelerated programs existed! I was only looking at EL-MSN programs until then. So it was kind of a good thing that I went to the info session anyway :)
I'm in as well.
Congrats to Psych to Nurse.
I'm in the same boat as being accepted to CSULB and CSUF. Still waiting on MSMC's acc-BSN. The nice thing about CSUF is that you can practice after two years and finish the master's program in two more years. So that's an option to the normal 3-year program. I'm not sure about Concordia's reputation and the students that graduate from there, but I'd probably weigh that heavily as well if I had to make that decision.

Wow those seem like good odds if you got invited for an interview! Makes sense for them to not want you to speak about the interview so you can come in fresh and answering honestly instead of sounding reheorificed or something. Good luck to you all!
