CSUEB fall 2014 RN applicant

U.S.A. California

Anyone else apply to cal state east bay/ CSUEB for fall 2014 term? From reading other threads on here and from attending informational meetings, they inform applicants around may :nailbiting:..... seems SOOOO long from now:banghead:. Have you applied to any other schools? Anyways waiting patiently here for May to come around. Any other people out there in the same boat as me? Anyone? ....Anyone? :nurse::unsure:

To those of you on the wait list I know how hard it is. You are in this land of limbo where you are kind of in but kind of not. It feels like no one understands what that means if they aren't familiar with nursing and nursing school. I didn't get in to East Bay but I am wait listed at my first choice school, wait listed at another school, and officially in another program. This has seemed like the most difficult time for me. It feels like every single person asks where you are going to school because everyone who isn't going for nursing knows where they are going. Hang in there to all of you wait listed. My fingers are crossed for you all to get in to the program! Distractions have been the best way for me to deal with the situation. Please keep us updated if you hear anything about the wait list movement. I like to hear when people on the wait list hear it gives me hope and makes me so excited because I know exactly what they went through and now they no longer are on that wait list and everything is official. Best of luck to everyone whatever their future entails and wherever that may be.

All those wait listed there is hope! Stay strong and don't give up! I just got offered a seat today in my first choice school that I was wait listed at originally. I wanted to share my story to give you hope, because I personally know how emotionally hard it can be to have to continue waiting and not knowing what will come out of the situation. Sadly, I can't say that because of getting in elsewhere I am opening a spot for one of you, because I didn't get in at CSU East Bay. But wanted to share that for a bit of encouragement. Best of luck to everyone!

To all those wait listed,

Do not be discouraged!Truth be told, I was wait listed and in the middle section and I got into CSUEB Concord Campus. I know for my cohort that they went all the way through the 70/80 people on the wait list and still didn't fulfill all the positions available. I would recommend taking a position elsewhere if you were offered, since every year differs from the other. However, I think it is highly likely that they'll go through the entire wait list again. When I was accepted, the cohort before mine said the same thing as well, so I think it's "normal" for the school. It's an accomplishment to get in and to get on the wait list at the very least, as the school generally has over 900 applicants.

Good luck to those on the wait list and Congratulations to those who were accepted! Huge accomplishment and get excited for your new beginning and journey to becoming a RN!

Thank you so much for your encouragement!! I'm waitlisted- in the middle section and it's a very hard place to be, but staying positive and hoping I have a decent shot!! I've accepted my offer at San Jose state in case I don't get accepted of the waitlist at CSUEB.

Do you remember when you found out you got off the waitlist? Just trying to get a general sense of how long I could be waiting..

Thanks again!!!

Hey Moonbeamlady,

I found out the second week of July that I was accepted into the program off the wait list. The orientation for incoming level 1 students is generally at the end of July so it was a little bit before that I found out. Keep your offer at SJSU and unfortunately you just have to wait it out! I hope this helps a little bit! Congratulations on getting in to SJSU! It's still a great accomplishment none the less! I get wanting to get into CSUEB, it was my top pick and it happened for me! :)

Ok thank you so much!! I really appreciate your encouragement!! I won't get too nervous if I don't hear anything until July then.. Just seems hard to plan anything this summer if I don't know if/when orientation will be... I guess they understand this and may have more than one orientation? Also do you know how long you have after your accepted to do background check/ drug test etc? Just trying to plan a few trips but it's hard in this land of limbo!

Also do you know what schedule is usually like the first quarter? San Jose's program is m-f and wondering if CSUEB will be about same..

Sorry for all the questions but you are a great resource and I really appreciate it!

Thank you!

I'm sure they'll contact everyone very soon with an orientation date.

I would wait (without sacrificing your standing at potential backup options) until your acceptance to do BLS, background check, physical, and drug screen, but you can start on the other requirements, as they are similar for most programs: Tdap, MMR (measels, mumps, rubella), Varicella, Hep B, and Flu vaccines if you have not had them; Measels, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hep B titers; TB Test (for CSUEB Concord: one skin test if you have had one within the last year. Otherwise, two TB skin tests 1-3 weeks apart, or just one Quantiferon Gold Blood Test). Also, they will require you to have health insurance.

CSUEB Concord's program for the first year has been Mon-Thurs for us with occasional Fridays. Clinicals are the biggest wild card, as they are dependent upon the facilitiy's availability. During the second and third year, they may be at other times.

Hi there,

I'm from Hayward campus and wanted to tell you guys some different between SJSU and CSUEB since my friends going to SJSU and we chatting about that all the time. In CSU, they cut everything into small portions so student can absorb material from theory, skill and clinical on a period of time. They really much repeat again and again so student will have more time to learn. For example with tube feeding, we will learn how to feed in last 3rd quarter and will learn how to insert the tube in 4th quater. That mean, during 2nd year we still need to work on more advantaged level of that skill including sterile technic like IV drug. Same arrangements with Patho in 1st quarter and Pharm in 2nd quarter.

In SJSU, they will learn how to do all of that at one. They will have total of 2 semesters to learn all the skills and then they're done and then move on with other specialties.

They will have Patho and Pharm at the same semester. I think she told me she was giving medication during 2nd semester while we having it during 3rd quarter. It really much at the same time of the first year.

We need to consider duration of academic calendar, SJSU will have 16-17 weeks semester compare to 11 weeks quarter in CSUEB. In total of a year, we will have 33 weeks including 3 finals week and SJSU have 32-34 weeks. Kind of all most the same.

As I will be finishing up my 1st year in 2 week and realized that I will have more specialties clinical rotation then my friends told me. That means we will have more hospitals to go to including specialized hospitals like Oakland Children hospital for Pediatric or Herrick hospital in Berkeley for Pshy rotations. Even though I live in San Jose, I still pick CSUEB because I want to run and explore as much hospital as possible.

If you never have quarter system before, you might need to find ways to fit in. Generally speaking, we all suffer in this first year of nursing program because everything was so fast to me and too much material to cover for my friends. So by the time for finals, I have to deal with " not enough time" issue while my friend have to deal with huge big finals in all of her 5 classes including skill. ( I forgot to mention that her skill labs are graded while I have them checked-off. Our nursing classes are graded on ABC standard while her are A+ A- and she have to make them C and above because C- is a fail)

Hi TP-Student.

Thank you for the info:)

I got accepted to EB and hoping to attend Concord campus:)

I would like to ask you about pathophysiology class.

There is 2 options for the course.

Traditional class with ----------- Or hybrid class with --------------. I try to find review but can't find any on ------------... Which class did you take?

Do you have any advice what to do during summer before the classes starts?

Thank you in advance:)

To Willow925: I don't know any infor about Concord campus program because we are 2 different programs. We have total of 2 students who moved from Concord to Hayward during 1st years. They have their own schedules and professors and only some of professors lecturing in both campuses. In Hayward, we have ---------- for Patho and Pharm while they have ------------ for Patho and another one for Pharm. I don't remember her name. You should try to ask level 2 and level 3 students during the orientation at your campus. Try to get infor from them is a very good way. Ask them who lectured Pharm and other classes also.

Thank you so much! I will ask during the orientation:)

Hello, this question is for anyone already attending the nursing program.

It has a been a while since I took physio, so I want brush up on the material. Do you guys have suggestions on what I should focus on before school starts? Something that was specially difficult or that is exceptionally important to know. Thanks in advance.
