Anyone else apply to cal state east bay/ CSUEB for fall 2014 term? From reading other threads on here and from attending informational meetings, they inform applicants around may ..... seems SOOOO long from now:banghead:. Have you applied to any other schools? Anyways waiting patiently here for May to come around. Any other people out there in the same boat as me? Anyone? ....Anyone?
I haven't yet. Does it matter if we submit multiple intent to enrolls to different CSUs?
I'm assuming it doesn't matter if we submit multiple Intent to Enrolls to different CSU's because you don't want to lay all your eggs in one basket, and get denied from the nursing program to the only school you accept. I already have "accepted" my Intent to Enroll in at least 3 schools...
Luckily, CSUEB doesn't have a deposit fee due when you press accept. So if I do get denied from the nursing program, I can just withdraw from the University itself.
Definitely make sure to file your Intent to Enroll by the deadline. It should be fine to submit more than one to different universities until you hear back and make your decision, as those deadlines usually come up before you hear from all of your schools.
I'm a current nursing student at CSUEB, and would be happy to answer any questions. I know I had a ton of them when I was in your shoes, so don't hesitate to ask. And, in my experience, the nursing administration at CSUEB is also very willing to answer questions.
Thank you donut 151!
I will definitely submit my intent to enroll this week!
Would you say it's safe to say we won't find out about acceptances/denials until the very end of May?
I am so anxious/ nervous and the wait is pretty treacherous!
I have no idea where I stand at having a chance.
How do you like the program so far?

Last year, the earliest people were hearing back was the very end of May. Depending on where people were on the lists, they continued to hear back well into the summer as accepted students declined their spots.
I remember how difficult it was to wait this long. I applied to five other programs, some of which were out of state, and I'd heard back from all of them long before CSUEB. It's so hard to not know where you are going to be in just a few months. Then, the next toughest thing was making a decision. I also had a tough time with that, so if anyone needs help weighing the pros and cons of one program over another, I may be able to help with that as well.
The program fits my style of learning really well. In the first quarter, they front-loaded us with a lot of basic patient-care information, theory, and pathophysiology before we were caring for patients. In the second quarter, we were front-loaded with pharmacology and more specific health care topics in theory while learning assessment skills and that we could apply immediately in Skilled Nursing Facilities. Now, in our third quarter, we are in acute care clinicals where pretty much everything we are learning can be applied immediately.
Relative to my friends at other nursing programs, it seems like a more gradual build-up in terms of clinical experiences, workload, and expectations. Then, in the second year, I've heard it gets much more intense. It's still very challenging academically up until that time, however. Pathophysiology and Pharmacology are important classes that require a lot of time, excellent study skills, and support from your fellow nursing students.
In general, the curriculum seems very well thought out. The instructors also work together very well to carefully plan tests and deadlines so they don't stack up on each other without a lot of warning. I've consistently felt like my instructors have worked very hard to support our learning and genuinely want us to do well in the program.
@LVNpanda824 - I realized I didn't fully answer your question. All correspondence was via email initially, as it was a conditional acceptance that depended on them verifying that we had met all requirements (courses in progress, background check and health screenings, orientation attendance, etc). Eventually, I'm pretty sure I received a letter. I did find that I was able to call and reach the nursing administration on the phone most of the time during the application and acceptance period. Whether it was by phone or email, the nursing admin folks were always so nice and very helpful, which was another factor in my decision-making process.
@Erika01 - You're welcome! Feel free to ask more questions as they come up. I remember having a ton.
@yoliness - I don't have an exact number, but many of the folks I spoke with at orientation mentioned having just gotten in off of the wait list. People were still getting accepted well into the summer. It sounds like we applied to some of the same schools. I also had applied to USF and SFSU. USF has great clinical placements and people seem to really love the program, but as I had lower cost options in the area, I passed on it. I don't know if SFSU's program is worse with the new curriculum, but I just was nervous about the no-preceptorship thing and I didn't want to be a guinea pig for a brand new curriculum. I hope some current students will contribute to that thread and give their input.
Hi everyone... totally late on hopping aboard this forum! I applied to East Bay and this whole waiting period is killing me! Ahhh so long! At least we are in May now so we should hear this month about acceptance! I have a couple questions if anyone could answer, that'd be awesome.
1) Is the priority for Veterans a guarantee into the program, so long as minimum GPA and such are met? I'm a Veteran, but I won't fully believe it until I see it in black and white...
2) Also, I'm living in the San Diego area currently. Any tips on neighborhoods to live? I applied for the RN program at Concord, so if anyone has some info I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Last week of May, from the website:
"**Status is not available at this time.
**If you receive a packet in the mail offering you conditional admission to the pre-nursing program, this is from the University Admissions Office, not the Nursing Department. Both offices review applications at the same time and send out different letters. Nursing Department notifications will be sent by the last week of May."
