CSUDH Entry MEPN Program - Fall 2010 Applicants

Published

i've been following a few threads and i love the excitement and anticipation of those waiting for acceptance letters/phone calls to a particular program and the camaraderie that it creates. i would love to get a thread going to show support and updates for those of us who have/are applying to cal state dominguez hills mepn program for fall 2010. i submitted my portfolio and application on november 30th. i was told that i should expect an interview in january. this is the only program i'm applying to. i know some may say that isn't smart, but i've done alot of research and it is the best/only one that meets all of my needs: prereqs, location, program duration, nclex pass rate and cost. being 30 and already having an expensive master's from usc in a field that i have decided to walk away from in order to follow my heart, i know that this program is the one for me. so i'm stepping out on faith and claiming my spot in the fall 2010 cohort. in my workshop, they said that they only expect to accept 35-40 students for fall. would love for others to share their experience with applying to this program and hopefully many of us will start this journey together are csudh in the fall! good luck to everyone!

Also, Nzkom, I in no way want to imply that you will not get an interview, which I'm sure you will and since you have a week before your portfolio is due, put your all into it, proof, proof, have someone else proof, then you proof read it again!! (I write marketing collateral 35% of my day, so I'm big on qc'n one's work).

The only reason I asked was because I followed the thread for last year's applicants and folk were receiving letters through mid-june, which just seemed crazy and late to me - so I wondered if it is because they take their time interviewing every applicant? I also know of several people that turned in their portfolio......months later had their interview.......months later were notified yay or nay. Oh the agony in waiting . That's the part that is going to cause me to go on ssri's :p!! LOL........I'm joking!

It seems like the people who had to wait until June to get their letters still had class(es) to complete in summer school, so perhaps the school had to wait until there was proof the applicants were enrolled before they responded??

Mya, I am sure you will hear something shortly after you submit your final transcripts next month!

JK, I think you're right.

I still have to take patho at dominguez this summer. The ratemyprofessor.com reviews of the professor who teaches it are not the prettiest! :crying2:........but I'll suck it up and deal!

l I know you took patho somewhere else. Did you find it difficult?

Mya, it was a fair amount of work (quizes every week, midterm, final, and a term paper), but the material was all in the book. And because it is truly what you will be doing for a career, it was really interesting to learn...but they covered a ton of material! I vaguely remember most of it...such a blur.

The class at DH is online, isn't it? So at least you don't have to interact with the poorly rated instructor (though I guess they can make exams with questions that come out of left field). I wonder what book they use??

Yes, it's online. That's a good question re: the book. I'm going to find out.

I was doing some research trying to map out finances needed in addition to tuition, should I be accepted and start in the fall, and I went to their bookstore online to take a look at the books/prices for some of the MEPN courses this semester. Then I went to half.com (where I buy all of my books) and found ALL of them there for 1/4 of the price - and if you are like me (someone who only buys previous editions - because it's ALL the same) you can find them for even cheaper. My micro, physiology and anatomy books were all under $10 bucks!! Just thought I'd share that!

OMG, those are good prices. I haven't had as much luck on half.com for my classes recently, but I did buy new from Amazon and Barnes & Noble for WAY less than the bookstore prices...campus bookstores are rip offs! (Though I am excited to buy some paraphernalia with the CSUDH logo on it!)

Thanks for the tip!

And that's the only thing I plan to buy from the bookstore. Rip off is right, especially when you look the buy back prices - it's like throwing money away!

Seriously! I am going to be POOR for the next two years...I need to save where I can!

It'll be worth it JKR_SB when you're done w/ school.

Thanks, hilife808! That's what I am banking on... :)

JKR, if I get in (I mean when I get in.....positive thoughts, positive thoughts LOL) I will be right there with you. I complain about not being married or having kids yet, but I guess it's all for a reason - can't realy feed a baby top ramen noodles everyday for two years, can you? :p:rolleyes:

Ha, ha...indeed you cannot, Mya. :lol2:

When I found out how much health insurance (in addition to everything else) is going to cost, I kind of started freaking out about the money...but I guess that is what PLUS loans are for.

Have you filled your FAFSA yet? I makes me sick how much they expect me (I mean, my "family") to come up with...clearly the feds don't realize how much the cost of living is in CA.

And PS...I am sure you will get in.
