i've been following a few threads and i love the excitement and anticipation of those waiting for acceptance letters/phone calls to a particular program and the camaraderie that it creates. i would love to get a thread going to show support and updates for those of us who have/are applying to cal state dominguez hills mepn program for fall 2010. i submitted my portfolio and application on november 30th. i was told that i should expect an interview in january. this is the only program i'm applying to. i know some may say that isn't smart, but i've done alot of research and it is the best/only one that meets all of my needs: prereqs, location, program duration, nclex pass rate and cost. being 30 and already having an expensive master's from usc in a field that i have decided to walk away from in order to follow my heart, i know that this program is the one for me. so i'm stepping out on faith and claiming my spot in the fall 2010 cohort. in my workshop, they said that they only expect to accept 35-40 students for fall. would love for others to share their experience with applying to this program and hopefully many of us will start this journey together are csudh in the fall! good luck to everyone!

The interview went well. I was a little nervous, but once I got in there and got a feel for my interviewer, whom seems tough and very to the point, I relaxed and told myself to just be me, because he is the type that can definitely see through BS. It lasted about 2 hours, with everything that I had to do. But I think I answered the questions honestly with a lot of detail, but pretty straight-forward. I also had a lot of questions as well and probably could've asked 10 more if we hadn't ran out of time. So now I just have to submit my winter quarter grade for physiology, which will be complete mid-march and play the waiting game. It will be a tough 2 years, most definitely, but it's doable and it's worth it.
Have you heard anything yet? I was told that admissions is on a rolling basis, so as soon as you have everything in and complete your interview, they can make a decision.
On the day of my interview, there were gale force winds - I was trying to get a parking permit, the wind almost blew my bills away, my hair was all knotted and I was freezing by the time I got into the office. I had to spend my time in the elevator trying to compose myself! But the interview seemed to go well, I had a woman who just asked me Q's straight from my portfolio and we just chatted about the field for a while (which most of my questions were about). She told me that the "committee" meets in February and starts making decisions then - she said I should hear something by March?? I am done with all my classes (well, except for one psych class that is required by a couple other campuses I am applying to), so all I can do it is wait at this point. CSUDH is my first choice, so I am crossing my fingers!! (And so is my family...they all live around that area and want me to move back.)
I am glad your interview went well, too! The two years will be tough...it's the financial side of things that scares me since we really can't work while in school...but yes, definitely worth it! Good luck in phys and on the waiting game. Keep me posted!
JKR, I know the feeling, I was a lil frazzled on the elevator as well. And then when I got there, my interviewer was no where in sight and no one knew where he was. I started to panic that maybe I had wrote down the wrong location for my interview. So I sat there, panicking and waiting, and 30mins later, he strolls in and says, with a smile, "let's get you started"!!! I almost wanted to pass out with relief and "are you serious"??? LOL:lol2:
CSUDH is my first choice as well......well, it's my only choice, seeing how it's the only school I applied to. But financially, length of program, location, scope of program, it's the best choice out of all of the schools I looked at.
I hope you get in as well! I'll say a prayer for you and hopefully we'll meet this summer at orientation!:)
Good luck on finishing your portfolio!
I know that last year, they sent out acceptance letters through June. What I wonder is if they interview everyone? That seems like a lot. I mean, most schools get anywhere from 100-300 applicants - they can't possibly interview everyone.
Either way, Nzkom I'm sure you'll do fine. Keep us posted!!
Not sure, but i know the final workshop is this month.
Yeah, it is a lot. It's the exact reason why UCLA's program doesn't conduct inteviews - it's strictly based on your application, essay, letters of recs, grades, etc. - because they just receive too many applicants. And I know for Cal State Long Beach, they don't interview every applicant. But Dominguez may be different it just seems, like a lot of time and many power needed- but then again, I'm not sure they receive as many portfolios/applicants as some of the other schools.
