CSU Los Angeles School of Nursing (CSULA Fall 2012)

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello,

I thought I'd make this thread for the new application group... even though it's a bit late since we have to all apply soon!

Anyway! I want to apply for the Fall 2012 term but I had some questions. I am an current CSULA student that transferred to CSULA in Fall 2010. I'm a Psychology major but am applying for Fall 2012 Nursing. I haven't taken my TEAS yet, but I'll be taking that on Friday (!!), so I'm very nervous about that.

That said, this is my first question:

I've been getting mixed info from different people. When I visited the Academic Advising Office last Spring (2011), the adviser told me that as long as I did not graduate from CSULA BEFORE I graduated, I could apply to the SON as a BSN applicant. I called SON to see if I could even apply for the ELM program and they told me that as far as they knew, I could not because I did not have my Bachelor's Degree yet.

So right now, I have approximately 2 quarters left in order to finish my Psychology major, approximately 6~8 classes. Ideally, I could finish by Spring 2012, but depending on my other workloads, I could push it back to Fall 2012. The problem is that I'm not allowed to graduate if I want to go into the basic program so I can't apply for graduation just yet. But IF I don't get into the BSN program, then I have to wait another two quarters after May or June or whenever they send out acceptances in order to officially graduate.

So I went to go and talk to my adviser about graduation and if I should even bother applying for Spring 2012 graduation and she tells me that no, I'm not allowed to apply for a BSN but I can go for the ELM program.

Does anyone know which is true? The CSULA advisers tell me that I can't apply for the Basic program but I can apply for ELM while the SON says that I can't apply for ELM because I don't have my Bachelor's degree yet and I should apply for the BSN program. Other graduate schools like APU and UCLA have also told me the same thing - without a Bachelor's, I cannot get apply for the ELM program at their school.

Thank you~

As long as it meets the minimum you should be fine. And I am not guaranteed in but I feel competitive as I have worked my butt off lol

Has ANYONE heard from CSULA? I'm wondering if no one is posting an update because of that or not.

Nope nothing yet. I am guessing the first time they make contact is to make cuts, or ask if about missing prereqs or teas. And in April we will find out if we're in

i havent yet, but i've read on another thread "

csula- elmn 2012", that people have already received invitations for an interview.

BSN program does not have interviews.I called the school today and talked to admissions. They said that the school itself, not only the program, is impacted so for that reason it offers admission to those cc's in its service area. Maybe out of area can get in too after service area has been served. I am luckily in the service area. The lady in admissions told me I was already admitted... So that's good news for me. Now to wait for nursing :)

Guess I am out at not only CSULB (just heard from their admissions, not the program, today) but that makes me out of two schools. This whole service area is ****** up. I am zoned for a school with no nursing program, what the heck am I supposed to do? Soooo dumb. Anyway, if what you say is true karan then I guess I am out of this school too. No way I can make it in especially with my new low score. Good luck guys!

I am guessing people out of service area have a chance of getting in after service area people. And grades probably help for that.

It is definitely true. That is exactly what I was told when I called admissions. In a perfect world, people out of the service area would get in after the rest, but I was also told that the chances are pretty much zero due to the amount of applications they received this year. I'm still pretty upset about it because I live in the service area AND I attend a service area cc, but since I have 6 more credits at an out of area cc, I'm screwed. I really think this system of impaction is unfair considering they have no appeal process for people in unique sitations such as DarkBlue Phoenix and me. I'm working on back up plans because I wont give up, but it still really ****** me off.

Aren't most of the CSUs impacted? So that sucks for everyone who also applied for a backup school.

Where else did you apply Sirena? You so would have gotten in too! Just 6 units away from getting in eh?

Of course they have no appeal process! And no matter who you talk to they are just going to let you rant and then say a half ass 'sorry' you didnt get in.

This is exactly why I applied to ADN programs as a back up. Because if I did not make it into any BSN programs, and especially due to the zoning issue, (plus waiting one semester to a year) that the budget wont be miraculously fixed by next application cycle. Most schools wont allow repeats on pre reqs so no point in fixing your grade. CSULA only takes TEAS up to twice. So basically this school, and many others, you only have ONE shot of getting in.

I want my BSN bad, but you know what? If I have to go through a longer process to get my ADN, well whatever then. Thanks to the state system, it doesn't leave us much of a choice.

Sirena, I would apply to ADN programs, if I were you. There are a few that are left that you can still apply to. My school (Citrus College) being one of them. There are private schools too, but you wont want the debt!

We wont give up Sirena, we will do this!

All of the CSUs are impacted! Where have you been? lol

There's also the option to get a degree in another major and then apply to accelerated programs. One of my friends got a C in chem and was discouraged. He/she switched to another major that only has 45 units to complete. They will be done in a total of 4.5 years (they switched after their 2nd year of college) and is thinking about pursuing nursing afterwards. Since accelerated programs are 1-2 years, he/she will get her BSN in 5.5-6.5 years which is pretty decent considering that I am in my 3rd year right now and if I get in will start the program during my senior year. I'm hoping to do a 2 year (csulb or csus) or 2.5 year (sdsu) program so I will be done sooner.

My friend has also told me about this school: American career college. heres the link to it: American Career College | Health Care Training | Los Angeles, CA Area

It's 13 months and I think you finish with an LVN. Tuitions a bit expensive for it, but if you don't want to wait it may be an option.
