  1. agree agree agree agree!!!!
  2. LOL love that response. Chances are, credits couldn't be transferred and/or classes had to be repeated. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  3. I'm at the last 6 months of my BSN program and I have been VERY happy (and tired!). Easily made the decision of doing my MSN in Education at WGU as soon as I finish.
  4. I agree with a previous poster stating that the deciding factor would be Peds vs Adult. Also, depending on how soon you want to go back to school would also be a factor.
  5. I know how you feel. I was brand new to telephone triage and clinic nursing when I started it a year and a half ago and I was petrified. Make sure you follow your clinic's protocols. If someone fits the criteria for strep throat (i.e. positive result), what have the doctors in your department approved for a protocol to prescribe antibiotics? For us, we are comfortable choosing the antibiotics the docs have approved. Otherwise, we'd have to constantly ask them. If nothing like that is in place, find out if it can be. As for choosing an antibiotics out of a list, verify the patient's allergies and assess their previous medications when it came to a certain illness and what meds did and didn't work. If you still don't feel comfortable, ask the patient's primary physician. I know you started this post back in February, so hopefully things are working out for you much better now! =)
  6. I agree that the Health Assessment class was a great refresher. Tedious, but worth it!
  7. I worked at a med-spa for 2 years mainly doing laser hair removal. Although you're not using your med-surg skills learned in school, there's still nursing assessment and lots teaching going on. Do you know how many times I've had to tell a patient to stop using a certain medication if they want to keep doing laser because of photosensitivity or bruising it can cause? The job can be stressful mainly because of the variety of patients. Beauty is a big deal for some women so the littlest hair or vein or wrinkle can make or ruin their day. I LOVED that job and would've stayed there for a very long time if I didn't have to move to another town. Still ended up getting a clinic job without a problem (I reminded them over and over again my experience and they didn't see much of a difference). I think whatever new job you end up at after med-spa, it really matters how much orientation/training is provided to help transition you to a new setting.
  8. Tried to email you also but it said the yahoo account doesn't exist
  9. The Los Feliz Village by CHLA is great. A lot of young professionals. I used to live there and it was only a couple of blocks from Griffith Park (huge park to hike, etc). Franklin Ave has a lot of apartments, as well as Los Feliz Blvd. but anywhere around that area is pretty affordable. I had a one bedroom apartment for $1050 and it was literally a 5 min drive to CHLA (stop lights and all).
  10. I'm not a new grad but I applied to UW from out of state and had a phone interview last week. Best thing I did was go on the UW website and under the jobs section, they have an interview tips page. It lists questions you can expect to be asked. It's best to write questions and answers on a piece of paper and maybe have a laptop open in front of u on their website. It's a great advantage of a phone interview. Anyway! Good luck. :)
  11. I had a couple of phone interviews a while back. What I learned to do in the second one that I didn't do on the first one was to pick up the phone and say "Hi, this is ____." Instead of an awkward "Hello?" It shows that YOU are ready for the interview and that you were expecting them. The good thing about phone interviews is the cheat sheet u can make. The night before I wrote questions down "why this company? Why hire you?" Questions that aren't situational, I answered them and wrote it down. I also had my laptop open to the hospitals About Us page. Think of it as an open book test and you'll be fine! Good luck!
  12. I'd also like that waiver. Applying soon! Thanks in advance :)))
  13. Has ANYONE heard from CSULA? I'm wondering if no one is posting an update because of that or not.
  14. Alternates do have a chance to get in; like they said before, some people decide to choose other school so spots open up. When I started the program, we had about 65 students. I think PCC is a lottery, I dunno how they're doing it anymore. But I got in for the semester I wanted without waiting, so I guess it's all on luck and prayer. I know for sure they have entrance exams now, so youre REQUIRED to pass those to actually START the program.
