Hello,
I thought I'd make this thread for the new application group... even though it's a bit late since we have to all apply soon!
Anyway! I want to apply for the Fall 2012 term but I had some questions. I am an current CSULA student that transferred to CSULA in Fall 2010. I'm a Psychology major but am applying for Fall 2012 Nursing. I haven't taken my TEAS yet, but I'll be taking that on Friday (!!), so I'm very nervous about that.
That said, this is my first question:
I've been getting mixed info from different people. When I visited the Academic Advising Office last Spring (2011), the adviser told me that as long as I did not graduate from CSULA BEFORE I graduated, I could apply to the SON as a BSN applicant. I called SON to see if I could even apply for the ELM program and they told me that as far as they knew, I could not because I did not have my Bachelor's Degree yet.
So right now, I have approximately 2 quarters left in order to finish my Psychology major, approximately 6~8 classes. Ideally, I could finish by Spring 2012, but depending on my other workloads, I could push it back to Fall 2012. The problem is that I'm not allowed to graduate if I want to go into the basic program so I can't apply for graduation just yet. But IF I don't get into the BSN program, then I have to wait another two quarters after May or June or whenever they send out acceptances in order to officially graduate.
So I went to go and talk to my adviser about graduation and if I should even bother applying for Spring 2012 graduation and she tells me that no, I'm not allowed to apply for a BSN but I can go for the ELM program.
Does anyone know which is true? The CSULA advisers tell me that I can't apply for the Basic program but I can apply for ELM while the SON says that I can't apply for ELM because I don't have my Bachelor's degree yet and I should apply for the BSN program. Other graduate schools like APU and UCLA have also told me the same thing - without a Bachelor's, I cannot get apply for the ELM program at their school.
Thank you~
There is always a chance, might be slim, but you can always make the waiting list. The speaker who came to my school said she got a call 1 week before school started. I wouldn't suggest this but if you are desperate try WCU, they are now WASC approved meaning the degree you get from there is equivalent to a state university like CSULA or UCLA. But it's 130k but since you have prereqs done it could be 85k. Just an option but I wouldn't suggest it.
No I applied to 5 other programs. 3 BSN 3 ADN. That's makes CSULA and CSULB out. so I applied to CSUSB. ADN are Chaffey, RCC and citrus. RCC is my top ADN program and I'm barely competitive for them. So I don't know what I will do. In getting a little old to be in college. I can't to WCU, I'm not spending 130k for a BSN lol. Thanks though. I am going to call them again and ask why my overall is so low. If I can manage one more point. The advisor guy I talked to said I was competitive and that since I have everything in, I will be one of the first to be evaluated. Also he said if there is one spot and a tie of points then the person with sociology or/nutrition done, then hey will choose them. That again screws me over because the school I go to doesn't offer nutrition and I'm taking sociology for spring but its a 6 week class
Wow what is up with schools choosing the first course taken? In a lot of circumstances people take their GE's as freshman not knowing what they want to major in, and don't do as well as they are capable of. It is pretty unfair that they don't take the highest grade of the course retaken in that category..
Oh no, I'm so sorry DarkBluePhoenix Did that one class really bump your points that far? Did they call just to tell you that? I know it makes you worry even more, but hopefully it means good things since he said you were competitive. Plus, you can't be the only one who miscalculated points. Apparently there are many rules we aren't really aware of.
I would call to verify your points. And especially if you went to different schools. The GPA you calculate may not be what they have. Idk. He probably said I was competitive to make me few better. Then when I told him that I feel like crap he said that he didn't want to get off the phone with me being discouraged. Gosh. And I find this out before an exam. Wonderful. Idk. If its not meant to be then I guess it isn't. Just I won't find out until around my bday which is just fantasic.
So they will tell you your points if you call? I had been holding off because I thought I remembered seeing something that said not to. But maybe if I call to verify they recieved everything I could just ask about the points at the same time. Now I'm scared to! I'm sorry you had to find out right before a test. Try to hang in there, it's not over yet!

No. He said if you go to an info session, they tell you. I does English critical thinking and got a C. So I took philosophy of logic and got an A. Well they take the C over the A. He called me right before my test so I couldn't figure out why my overall isn't as high as I calculated it to be. It should be at a 3.2. So basically that dropped my application from 23 points down to 18. I still have algebra in progress, so I doubt that would raise to a 3.2 for extra point. I am so like depressed. I didn't even know. I thought I had 23. Now its worse.I'm just ......I don't know.....upset. I almost cried on the phone!
