CSU Long Beach School of Nursing (Fall 2010)

U.S.A. California

Published

This thread is for those who are aspiring a seat in CSU Long Beach's School of Nursing for Fall 2010.

We all know the current impaction of the program. We are all familiar with the challenging process.

We understand the competition between all the applicants. You are not alone!

I submitted my application yesterday and I must tell you the relief I suddenly had.

I have worked hard the past two years of my life and there is nothing else I can do but pray and hope. =]

Has anyone else turned in their application?

How are everyone's stats that got in? can anyone please care to post?

I got in with: 4.0 on prereq's and 90% on the test.

Anybody receive an email about the to-do list? I have a problem lol. I don't have health insurance right now and was planning on buying through CSULB. However, to buy it, a student must have 6 registered units etc and I am a Fall10 transfer student. It says we need the proof of insurance by the middle of summer. Anybody else have this problem?

vital shield 2900 toppick.jpg physician office visits: $40(x2) inpatient hospital: 40% in-network maternity: [color=#ce3000]not covered deductible: $2,900 prescription drugs: $10g

Is anyone here applying to the Entry Level Masters program? I received an email saying I was accepted but I still haven't heard from the university so I think I'll follow your lead and give a call to try to find out. Anyhow, I just would love to talk to others who are considering that program for the next three years.

Are there any non-transfer students here?

I'm a non-transfer student!

Since you're already attending CSULB, I hope you don't mind answering some questions of mine.

Due to budget cuts, I heard it's hard to get the classes you need to graduate, thus taking 4+ years to graduate with your undergraduate degree. Is this truly the case? How are the class room sizes? How would you rate the quality of the teachers there? Are students in general able to form intimate relationships with their teachers, or are they more distant interactions? Do you have any tips for an easy transition into CSULB whether it be on an academic or social standpoint?

It is definitely true that due to the budget cuts, it is MUCH harder to get into classes, especially if you're an underclassmen (freshman or sophomore). However, I don't know if this applies to the nursing classes as well. If you haven't finished your GEs or what CSULB calls "Capstone" courses, you might want to plan ahead to what classes you are going to take, because some are much more impacted than others, and thus, impossible to get into.

As for student teacher relationships, a lot of professors (most of the ones I've had in fact), offer many opportunities for one-on-one interactions, such as office hours. Also, from the professors I've had (a lot of them being science professors since I was a biology major), there were some that were very difficult to follow but most of them are good enough. I've never really done badly in a class just because the professor was bad. However, I did hear from my friend who is in the CSULB BSN program that some of the nursing professors are really grouchy and difficult to understand. Apparently, most of the faculty in the nursing department are always on edge.

Overall, CSULB is very easy to get used to. Hope this helps.

So you're getting a Master's degree in nursing now? Did you already take your prerequisite classes? If so how were they?

To all accepted transfer students - Anyone heard about the SOAR, whether it's mandatory for us to attend or not? I thought we only had to attend the 6/11 orientation, but according to the university website "All new undergraduate students are required to attend SOAR before registering for classes". From what I can see on myCSULB right now, there's one available on 7/26 that's specifically for health & human services majors.

I spoke to nursing dept. staff regarding this matter. If you're a new incoming student to CSULB, then SOAR is mandatory for you. The next one is on 7/26 for health and human services majors.
