CSU LB not accepting spring 2012 transfers?

Hey everyone!

I am applying (hopefully) to Cal State Long Beach this fall for spring 2012 admission!

Problem is, I heard, that they are NOT taking spring transfers. I know this is really early to be questioning this especially since its still early into the year.

So anyone know? I would love to get in this school but I mean if they aren't taking transfers I can always wait until spring to apply, especially since I apply in fall I will have a course in progress, and I am pretty much sure that I won't get in anyway.

Any info from anyone in the nursing program or applying would be greatly appreciated.

BTW I am not a CSULB student, I am attending citrus college. So yes, I would be considered a 'transfer'.

I spoke to CSULB reps and they said that the school won't know that info until later this semester.

oh & i got to citrus also!

i dont think they are because the budget cut is even worse

they won't know until Jerry Brown decides on a budget for the year. i know that since nursing is an impacted program if they do end up accepting transfers in the spring you have to be an upper division transfer (60+ transferable semester units) to apply. They are also only considering California residents as of right now. Hope this helps!

what other schools are you guys applying to? I'm so stressed out!!!!!!!

i won't be ready for nursing school until spring 2013 (yikes!) but i pretty much plan on applying to every ADN and BSN program within 20 miles of where i live. so far this would be cal state LB, Cal state Fullerton, long beach city college, golden west, cypress, cerritos, and harbor college! i figure i should be able to get into one of those, i am not being too picky! lol.

Since the budget is bad apply to the schools as another major to establish residency. It will be easier to ft into he nursing programs that way.

That's what I am doing for CSULB. I am applyig this august as a chem major and then apply to the nursing school for fall 2012 . That way I will have everything done and be a CSULB student.

Tough times nowadays especially for transfers

by the time i apply next year i'll have 70 total transferable semester units (the max for csu's) and have met all of the proficiencies so i shouldn't have to take any more classes to get my degree other than the nursing courses. since csulb holds their students to the same standards as their transfers i'm not sure what transferring there under another major would help achieve since i have no more classes to take until i actually get into a nursing program. hopefully my local student status will mean something to them. lol.

As a matter of fact they favor their own students. Proof is this falls class. They only considered 25 transfers and the 65 other spots went to CSULB students. Until the budget gets better I rather not risk it. But if want to risk it that's fine but don't be surprised when your 4.0 can't even get a spot.

As for locally, yes they will take that into consideration but to an extent. I mean if you have someone who goes to a CC further away but they have perfect stats vs someone who went to local CCs who has decent stats. We all know who they are going to take and it isn't gonna be the local person either...

Anyway, and no you won't have just "nursing classes" when you apply. Since I see your only 18, are you a freshmen? Hmm...

One thing is upper division GEs that you can't do at a CC. Capstone classes is what they call them. Those are like medical anthropology or some stupid classes like that that you will need to fit somewhere in your nursing schedule.

Anyway you applying for 2012 or 2013? Either way good luck and I guess the later you apply hopefully better your chances are because by that time hopefully CA budget won't suck as bad. And maybe here will actually be jobs for new grad (in case you didn't know, there ain't no jobs lol )

Good luck

i was under the impression that csulb only gave preference to their students over transfers that are declared pre nursing majors. I don't see why they would give preference to a declared chem major into the nursing program, i figured the preference was to insure csulb's pre nursing students actually got into csulb's nursing program after they finished their pre reqs. i really don't think transferring in as an unimpacted major and then switching to nursing at the last second is going to help your chances. also i am a sophomore, not a freshman, i just have a late birthday. lol.

Again, I am not saying that I would have any preference as a chem major.

What I am saying is that as CSULB student, regardless of major, I will have preference over you (a transfer).

I am just picking chem because

A. It's not a popular major and unimpacted

B. Because I like chem.

So honestly all I am trying to do is get my foot in the door so to speak. Now that the budget is most likely gonna suck worse this year. Just like fall 2011 CSULB students will get preference over transfers.

So yes its a little risky but I rather risk this and have at least tried vs not getting in when I am a transfer anyway.

Plus this is not the only school I am applying to. Just my top choice.

Sorry, thought you were a freshman lol.

Once you have been a college and university student, there are ways around the system ;)
