CSN RN program

A few questions:

1) did anyone else notice that it looks like they are accepting more than double the number of students for spring in 09? I once read that they accept 56 for spring, now that number says 120 on the CSN website. Anyone else notice this? am i just nuts and a little too wishfully thinking?

2) i'm having trouble finding good advice. the only person that will tell me anything is the super pessimistic guy on the ground floor of building K. he calls himself the "go to guy". i'd say otherwise. is there someone better to go to before i submit my app in 2 weeks?

3) to anyone who is already in the program, how do u think i'll fair with 23 points and no bio 224? I still need to take it but i'm applying anyhow without it. Did anyone else do that? I've heard that "no one gets in without bio 224". (Summer session was full for 224 this year and I just couldn't get in no matter how hard i pleaded with the evil evil bio department) So I'm a bit nervous.

4) to anyone in the program: what do you think of it??? i've heard 1st semester is really really weed out type stuff. any tips? well...maybe save the tips for if i get in.

sorry it's kinda long and thanks sooooo much to anyone who responds!

Oh another question. How do I got about getting the CSN transcript to turn in with the application, I can only seem to look it up by semester rather than one full transcript...surely I don't have to print off each semester?

Never mind, tried a different computer and let me print off the unofficial transcript. Will go down to the limited entry office sometime this week to have them check my DARS etc. and make sure it's ok for me to apply.

I have another question. Does anyone know if there is still a mandatory math test during the first semester of the RN program and that if you fail it you are out of the program???

Yes that is true. You get 2 chances to pass and if not you are kicked out of the program. It is the same for each semester of the program.

in the last semester in order to put pressure of time there will be almost 35 problems to solve in one hour. As compare to other semesters first semester math test was so easy just like math 100B. i found some students just have the anxiety toward math test. so stay calm u will make it in first chance.

best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!

What if you didn't take 100B will you be screwed for these math tests? or is it based on stuff you learn in the nursing program?

Your 101 lab instructor will teach you how to complete the math, but if you are worried about it there is an optional 2 week course that is offered prior to the start of first semester that will teach you everything you need to do. After you get accepted you will get info about this course if you are interested. Besides math, it will teach you how to write care plans as well. I took it and felt it was worth it, but other people didn't take it and they did fine as well...

Thanks so much for the tips, I was getting worried. The 2 week course doesn't sound bad at all so def will check out that info.

yes tccjknv is right u can take the two weeks class, plus you are going to learn in nursing lab that how to calculate math problems. you will be fine.

yes those math tests were the reason alot of people failed the program , it's a shame because they would pass and be on the second or third semester then flunk out because of those math tests. i took the math 100b and was lucky enough to pass each test the first time... alot of people didn't ...

i had many worries about the math and i was surprised how easy it was for me... i'm sure you will have no problems... if i can do it anyoe can

so you are saying you need 100b to pass? The others said you are taught it in the program as well, if so then why did people fail?

Another question. I was supposed to go and talk to the limited entry person today about my application but she was in a meeting. I don't exactly live close so if I go out again and she's not there I'd like to just turn my application in and hope for the best. With your application do you need to attach the letter you got about your grades for the NLN exam because it doesn't specify whether it needs to be included. I wasn't sure if they could look the result up somewhere or not. I figured you would need proof for the score you write down for the NLN lol.

to tell you the truth i don't know why so many people fail those math tests... maybe just the thought of knowing if you fail twice all your hard work getting in the program is now history.... or maybe just math jitters.... the tests are tricky , you have alot of conversions and they don't make them easy.... but i was a LPn for along time and i just found them easy .. i got 100% on every test first try including the peds test which is the one most people failed and got kicked out of the program... we had 10 people fail out just for that one test...

but everyone handles tests differently and for me it just came natural for the math...i got a A in math 100b and even helped the teacher with some conversions...

believe me if i can do it .. anyone can...

oh i wish i could tell you about the NLN i went through the bridge program
