CSN RN program

A few questions:

1) did anyone else notice that it looks like they are accepting more than double the number of students for spring in 09? I once read that they accept 56 for spring, now that number says 120 on the CSN website. Anyone else notice this? am i just nuts and a little too wishfully thinking?

2) i'm having trouble finding good advice. the only person that will tell me anything is the super pessimistic guy on the ground floor of building K. he calls himself the "go to guy". i'd say otherwise. is there someone better to go to before i submit my app in 2 weeks?

3) to anyone who is already in the program, how do u think i'll fair with 23 points and no bio 224? I still need to take it but i'm applying anyhow without it. Did anyone else do that? I've heard that "no one gets in without bio 224". (Summer session was full for 224 this year and I just couldn't get in no matter how hard i pleaded with the evil evil bio department) So I'm a bit nervous.

4) to anyone in the program: what do you think of it??? i've heard 1st semester is really really weed out type stuff. any tips? well...maybe save the tips for if i get in.

sorry it's kinda long and thanks sooooo much to anyone who responds!

Sara :)

Hi,

1) No they always accept 128 students/semester for full time + 28 or something for part time program. i got accepted in spring 2007, and they accepted 128 at that time.

2) there is some other advisors too , there is one nice lady who sit in room which is across the desk of that guy, near to the side entrance door.(i dont know how to explain coz i dont know room no, it is in the K building first floor, near to security desk.

3) Try nevada state college for BIOl 224, i took over there in summer an dit was so easy as compare to CSN.

4) 23 points are good if u r applying for spring. i got in with 19 points .

5) I dont want to remember first semester in nursing program, that was the

most depressing and weird time of my life. OMG. it was so hard + the pressure to pass + we were new like we went to another world + instructors were so ..... i dont have words to explain that.we lost lots of students in that class.

let us know if u have any more question or doubt!!!!!!!!

Hey, thanks for the reply. so the first semester was that bad, eh? ok well at least i've been warned. is it bad as an it was bad because the instructors were strict/evil/overly demanding or was it bad because the material was hard? i took the CNA course at CSN (which i've been told is a simplified version of nurse 101) and i just thought it was weird. i thought it was a complete waiste of money to have us go out and get a name tag that was all fancy and those scrubs and all that junk for such an easy course which could have been tought so much quicker. it just seemed like the department was putting u through a lot of hoopes, u know? but it was easy material. really easy. just...a hassle with all the rules. is that what made the first semster hard?

ok well thanks a million again for your reply. that is really helpful. i need to go find that lady of which u speek in building K. for sure.

It's not so much that the 1st semester material is hard, but the instructors can be very strict - - at least the 2 instructors teaching the lecture. Everybody jokes that the 1st semester is used to weed out all the people that aren't serious enough to make it through to the end. So when you sign up for clinical, I would strongly advise you to get a teacher that isn't teaching lecture. It was pretty funny 'cause the 1st day of class in 2nd semester...the med/surg instructor asked us why the heck we were all still wearing our name badges to class. He was like "What did those 101 nazis DO to you?" lol The mental health instructor said the same thing. Once you make it through the 1st semester, you're used to the workload and the stress. :nurse:

Yes she is 100% right. dont take the class instructor for lab or clinical.

ya i remember first day of mental health class i had my name badge on and i went to class late, my class instructor told me to remove it.i dont know why in first semseter class instructors were so rude and mean.

it is ok time will pass. best of luck and the only thing matter is how hard you work to get thru this hard phase.

Just wanted to say, they have changed the points program since Spring of '07 or since Fall of '06 when 19 points would enable you to get in. I believe the change took place for applicants trying to get in for Spring '08. I started Fall '07 and we were the last ones to get in on the old points system. There was absolutely nobody in my class that didn't have A&P II (224). People were missing things like Political Science or Comm.

What you have to do is check the website and the new points calculating system is there. Apparently now it's very rare to get in without A&P II but I still highly recommend applying because you never know who decides not to take their seat, who fails drug testing, etc.....

Good luck, your enthusiasm is wonderful....don't worry about all the negative things people say, if you want it you will do it.

YUP, I believe this to be true. So far, most people I know have, between 23-26 points total. A few of the people with 26 points and up have GPA's between 3.8 and 4.0!!!.... I mean, that is crazy! THESE are the people I'm competing with??.... I'm crossing my fingers, 'coz I really want to get in for spring '09, so far i only have 23-24 points and waiting for my NLN results. I hope I at least passed it!!! The nursing schools around here have gone crazy with their requirements for the last 5 years or so! that's what the locals have told me!!!

yeah...i know what u mean with it being so insanely hard to get in. like my gpa is 3.7. i have my CNA license. I've taken all my pre reqs. i already have a BA in another field. i think i got a 6 or 7 on the NLN...i mean that's what i was getting when i took practice tests...but like u, i'm awaiting my results. and oh...don't bother calling the NLN for results. i already tried that as i took my test on august 2nd. they wont give results over the phone period. grrrr. so yeah even with all that i only have 17 points cuz i don't have bio 224. however i think if i did well on my NLN i can get my points up to 23 or 24. we'll see. here's hoping right. :wink2:

yes my friend was accepted with 25 points and a 4.0 GPA into the RN program , she got accepted the first try applying, she starts the end of this month... they are becoming more and more strict on who they are accepting because they have so many applying.

it is worth the wait,, i graduated from their RN program and i loved it ... it is the best ( at least in my eyes) ...

Hello I thought I would add to this thread. I'm hoping to try to apply to CSN RN program in september 08. I am waiting on one transcript to be transferred and crossing my fingers it comes through. I just got back my NLN results today which I took on august 2nd also. I got a composite score of 129 which only gives me 3 points but I have a GPA of about 3.8 on the program pre-reqs and a total of 30 points. Is this good enough to get in provided I'll be able to apply?

yeah i'd say u should be sitting comfortable at 30. that's a solid number. if i were u, i'd be not so worried. (but u never know what can go wrong so...) i was quite pleased w/how quick they sent NLN scores. i got 152, just enough to add 7 points to my app for a total of 24...which is not such a promising number but it's better than the 17 i had before getting my NLN results. best of luck!

Wow that was an awesome NLN score. I was disappointed with mine but I only studied for about a week because that was when I found out I could be a standby to take the test. But I'm pretty happy with having 30 points. Just have to cross my fingers they transfer my transcript for my math class in time.

Quick question is it required that you meet with a health advisor? Because I never have and I would hate that to stop me from being accepted.

I tried very hard to meet with an advisor and all i got was that weirdo guy who stands in the lobby and deals out advise to pre rn students- he said he could answer all my questions but most of what he told me was hearsay. i honestly am beginning to think that no one there knows what they are doing. or else they just think that students are idiots and when they have questions it's because they have dumb questions that anyone can answer. (good thing i've been told VERY good things about the program itself) when i went into the building the other day for whatever reason i forget why - well there was a woman there instead of that guy and she told me to register for an advisment session. however - all the advisement sessions are booked till september at this point so i just kinda snuck in and asked a few questions anyhow. (ask the woman in the office that's across the desk from where u pick up flyers for program requirements. she's a blonde haired lady - she knows what's up). so maybe just try and sneak in and ask her like on monday. but no, to my knowledge, u do not HAVE to have an advisement session - or else i'm not getting in cuz i havn't had one. which is why i have all these questions on this board :). - but also if u do want to register for advisement sessions all u have to have is that like hour or so long orientation program completed - and they offer that every week.
