CSN RN Program Details. Spring 09 Beyound!

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

I wanted to start a thread that would give general info for those interested in the RN program at CSN in Nevada. I got some good info from reading peoples posts here at allnurses.com and thought since that I have put in an application I could post on here and help people in the future who have questions.

Starters...People who are interested in the program starting from scratch.

I would definetly recommend going to one of the orientations first off. It is about an hour they go over the details and they get you in the system. This will be important when you decide to set up a meeting to meet with an advisor at the K building later on, you cannot set one up without attending the orientation.

Course requirements. Although i have no experiance as an advisor i could say get one of the program packets that state what is required. I can say right off bat that the GPA requirement is based off those classes listed in the pre-requisets and do not include the othe general requirements although you do get points off of some of those.(Science classes allowed three tries passing or highest of the three!). Points are given for certain classes the most of which is ten for Bio 224 ANP II. Please get a packet though available at the K building Charleston campus not sure about Cheyenne.

Third at some point better sooner then later sign up for the TEAS examination. if you are not happy with your score you can retake it after a certain number of months. Taking this early while you are working on course requirements will give you time to retake it and possibly get a better score. Also this test is used at some other universities take it you want to pursue a bachelors somewhere else. You have to pay in order to sign up for a date to be tested. This is Part of acceptance into program and you also get points for this. Same test they have in California and I guess other places here in the states.(like 30 dollars sign up at the cashier, and yes they have review books for this one!)

Application process there are deadlines and as for right now they are twice a year. They have full-time and part time schedules and accept 125 for the full-time track. I wouldn't recommend applying until you have done some of the stuff listed before hand i.e talking to a counselor taking the examination completed classes listed in the requirements packet. You can download the app on the schools website , go find it there.

I am hoping this info will be helpfull to others well basically because its the kinda info I was interested in and had to gather myself least I could do is take this info and help others like me.

Further info I have applied and am also waiting for the call on the 29th like many others I am applying with 28 points to elliminate other questions here after because I know how curious everyone can be after all we are all human right.

My BG I am 28 currently moved from SD where i attended maric college for their RN program in 99 in which i subsequently dropped out moved here to get my life in order. thus me attending CSN and applying for their program! If I get accepted i will update this thread of further information. Starting the program until completion!!

lucky!

Even if yeah take the cxr its only a precaution to see if you might have it! If you always have a positive you need to make sure its not from actual exposure my doc still wants me to take the medicine even though my x-ray is clear...

Anyone bought their uniforms yet?? I know someone that went over to the store they recommonded during orientation and the person said CSN requires snap-up tops when that was what we were specifically told NOT to get. Talk about confusing. The school really needed to be more specific on uniforms and given us a handout or something.

Hi! I'm new to this thread - but I've been following it for awhile! I, too, will be starting the program in january. I totally agree about needing more info on the uniforms!! SO confusing!! I haven't even bothered to look for them yet. I know that the CNA program uses snap up shirts for women and zip up for men. So it's weird that they'll let CNA's wear those but tell us we shouldn't? I think I'll wait till the Jan 6th meeting and ask then (if I haven't heard any specifics before then). Does anyone know when/where we turn in that questionnaire that was in our packet (but they failed to talk about)? It's not included in the list of things to turn in on the 15th. Any ideas?

I turned mine in the day of the orientation. My guess would be just to fill it out and go to K-106 and ask the secretary who to give it to.

Information about our uniforms is in our student handbook. It describes what they want so there wont be any mix-ups. It doesn't go into detail though...

No it doesn't..all it says is white non-scrub uniforms. That doesn't help us much in regards to whether we are allowed zippers or buttons...and the uniform place is saying snaps when we were told we aren't allowed those. Plus I've heard they also have requirements about the pants in regards to drawstrings vs. elastic...but they don't bother to mention this to any of us so how are we supposed to know.

We don't have to have our uniforms ready untill the last day of ACE when they have us come to class in uniform for inspection. So i'm sure that they will give us more info before then, Hopefully...

during the orientation, does anyone remember if any of the speakers mentioned a different store other than the "only one" they mentioned? i'm thinking maybe i missed something about uniforms when the people up front were talking about them. that orientation just made me tired and hungry. . . . maybe i missed something, 'coz i can only remember that one store they mentioned on sahara.

by the way, last week i met this girl who's graduating this semester and she's taking the nclex in january, she did say that "they" were allowed to wear "snap ups and buttoned tops". i mentioned to her that incoming class this january are only allowed to wear buttoned tops (what they told us @ the orientation). i spoke to my advisor as well last week and she wasn't sure either, she said she'll get back to me? i guess we have to wait till ace classes start in january to buy our uniforms? what if that "one store" runs out? i hope not.

At the orientation they only told us about that one store so you didn't miss anything. I'm confused also. Someone who is also starting the program spring called the school to ask about uniforms and whoever she spoke to said zipper, button-up, or snap-up. When you go to the store on sahara and tell them you're with csn they show you what uniforms and they are snap up, and that's pretty much the only option they have in white. I'd prefer buttons so I've been looking around online at options. And also the pants have to be elastic, no drawstring which also limits choices at the store. none of the elastic pants in white they had seemed to fit me.

Wow, glad you guys are discussing this! I haven't purchased my uni yet. Kinda convieniant how that guy they used as a example already had a zip up uniform..haha Hey they mentioned life uniforms also at the meadows mall...aside from the one with a discount on sahara! I want pants with pockets because on a thread in here they where recommended apart from a pocket top which stuff(scissors,red/black pen,penlight...haha etc etc!) can fall out of when you bend over! Oh by the way whats ACE?did'nt get that acronym?

Alternate Clinical Experience; before we go to our clinical site we go to ACE to learn some basic skills. I think it's like the first three weeks.

I'm at Charleston right now stopped by the K building to talk with Laura!! Anyhow white uniforms snaps, buttons or zippers doesn't matter just don't buy any scrubs! i also inquired about the shoes because I was curious if they could have black soles?! As long as they are white and leather they are fine!!
