Crying, Cursing in Class and other Drama

A little bit of drama in my school this week, all test related. During one test, one woman realized her answers were all screwed up with only five minutes to go. Since she didn't have to time to fix it, she starts cursing and yelling at the teacher, who promptly threw her out.

Then, in another class, a girl starts crying because she flunked. It's always a little uncomfortable when people cry in class. But then she goes out in the hallway and complains to another teacher (who happens to be passing by) about how bad this teacher is. She did this very loudly and in front of everybody during the class break. Naturally, since she wasn't very discreet, it got back to the teacher.

While I've found both of these teachers to be pretty reasonable, I still don't blame people for being upset sometimes. But these emotional outbursts are a bit weird. Has this happened to anybody else? Or was it because there was a full moon this week or something? ;)

Yeah...It happened last Thursday....Now for every future test we have to come in, show our Student ID at which point we will be given the test. It was a really weird experience. All and All our teacher was really cool about it, (other then making the new test harder).....I hope the cheating jerk fails miserably......

Did this person somehow think that the teacher wouldn't notice? I'm totally shocked by this. Usually cheaters are a little more subtle at least. How could they think they would get away with this?

You know Liz...I can only chalk it up to the stupidity of Criminals....Our Proff said that it has happened to several of the other proffessors here as well...Our new test had the Academic honesty policy attached to it and we all had to sign off on it....the amount of trouble this knucklehead caused....I swear he or she would be lynched by our class if they stepped forward..Very strange situation- I too have never seen anything like that before....

OMG! This has happened before? Wow! My school just redesigned the computer testing lab to prevent cheating. But those problems were nothing compared to this!

If it's any consolation, I'm told that cheaters usually fail anyway. In our computer testing lab, people were trying to sneak in notes and such. But it didn't help much since the tests were time limited. Since they didn't know the material, most still failed even with their cheater notes. Nevertheless, the school changed the lab layout so they could watch people more closely, and they too are now requiring ID's.

Still, it's so unfair that you and your classmates had to pay the price. I hope the cheater rots in hell !!!!!! :angryfire

Some drama in my school too. On our second exam several students got grades that the instructors thought were much too high based on those students previous scores. There were many rumors flying around about cheating on the second exam and the dean of students was brought in to give us a lecture about cheating. There has been a rumor flying around that one of the students actually saw another student using a cheat sheet but has refused to turn in the offender to the instructors.

The instructors created an entirely new final for the class and we took that this week. Before taking it they had all of us bring forward all books, jackets, etc. and place them at the front of the room. I think the instructors made this last test much more difficult because of the cheating allegations. I have compared grades with several other students and the highest grade I have heard so far is a 74%. I had scored in the upper 80% and lower 90% range on all previous tests, including the HESI I took the day before the final and only got a 69% on final.

So sorry this happened to you as well Ruylupez. The school should prevent cheating, but I don't think it's fair to make the exams harder to try to remedy the problem. Don't get me wrong. Tests should be hard. But it sounds like the revised tests are punishing the honest students rather than the dishonest ones.

Most notably this semester during our Drug Calc. exam, which you have to pass to continue on in the program, I was signed up to take it with about 7 other people. (We can sign up at various times to take it during "lab" hours, tests are not given to everyone in one group). Anyway, I got into the room with my test and most of the other students were allready in their taking it. I would say about half of them were swearing out loud and saying it was a joke. A few of them even gave up on the exam and just turned it in without doing it. (We are allowed one retake). The proctor wasn't in the room, just outside of it so they didn't hear any of the commotion.

I had to admit, they were right. Drug Calc. is treated as "self study" and is not covered in lecture. Our instructor told us which chapters to read from our drug calc. book but when we got to the test there were an additional 5 other chapters on the exam that she did not tell us about plus many of the questions were not covered in any of the chapters. Then, they took points off of some of the questions if we did them the way the book instructed us and not the way our instructor wanted them done. But she never showed us "her way" of doing it.

One of my classmates said that when she was taking the exam one of the guys in our class burst out into profanity. The proctor at the time, also a male instructor, would have none of it and removed him from the exam. I don't know if he was allowed to retake it or not.

I didn't think it was right for him to have an outburst like that but I couldn't fault him for saying out loud what we were all feeling.

Of courseeeee school is stressful..and everyone handles things differently, so who am I to judge..but, my first thought when I read this was..if they react this way in school how will they act in a trauma or code situation?

yeah, ive often wondered how people like this would act in a trauma situation... but its hard to predict behavior without knowing someone a little better... perhaps college stress gives alot of people a place to learn about dealing with stress.. so they dont react as poorly when they are a nurse? im not quite sure we can judge how they will be as nurses at this point in time, because they are still on the path learning how to be one? just a passing thought. ... oh and horray for me, this is the last week of winter quarter and only one more prerequisite to go!

I never once found college stressfull

Yet another girl cried in class yesterday. It must have been personal because our major test in this particular class was postphoned this week. Since I sit next to her, I didn't know what to do. If you stay silent, it might seem you don't care and that you're insensitive. But if you ask what's wrong, they may not want to talk about it and asking might upset them more.

I honestly don't know what to do in situations like that. Thankfully spring break is next week. Maybe everybody will get some much needed rest and chill out.

Hahahahahahahahaha! :)

Gotta kick out of this one.

I never once found college stressfull

When did you go to college Tom? If it was several years ago, I wonder how the course requirements back then compare with what students have to do now. I'm pretty sure that the course requirements, at least in California, have gotten a lot tougher over the years.

Well, all I have to say is that if they ladies are pre-nursing students, once they get into their nursing classes (if they make it) they will definately not be able to flirt their way into the hearts and minds of their nursing instructors. So it will all work out in the wash.

I would also be a little perturbed if I was paying for an education that was impeded by such behavior and if it continued I would explore going up the chain of command to correct it. If they are simply annoying you and not impacting your learning then just sit back and have a good laugh at them.

As far as the comment about never having been stressed in college, I would opine that the poster has either forgotten what it was like, or was being funny, I guess.
