CRNE 7th october

Published

Hello,

I'm new to this site but am finding it really useful! I'm canadian but did my nursing degree in the UK, and I currently practicing in England. I'm due to sit the CRNE on the 7th October and have read some scary posts on its level of difficulty. I have the study guides and will continue to study for the next 8 weeks until I fly over to toronto to sit it. I'm extremely nervous....anybody got any further pointers for me????

I can't wait for my family to start our life in Canada pending me passing this exam (so no pressure Eh!)......and a new job in toronto would be great!!!!!

Good luck to all of those that are sitting it the same day as me!:nurse:

You can blame Canada Post for some of that. The results are mailed to all of the Colleges at the same time. How many times each package is handled depends on how many postal substations it passes through before it gets to its destination. I've seen it take a week for something to go from my home in a suburb of Edmonton to an address a 20 minute drive away (having gone through two substations and one main post office), and I've seen it take less than 2 days for something to go from Winnipeg to Montreal (one substation and one main post office).

Another HUGE factor is the number of results each College handles. Ontario is the most populous province and thus can be expected to have the greatest number of people writing and the greatest number or results to examine, document, collate and send out. The speed of all of this depends on how many people they employ to do the work. Where does the money to pay these people come from? All those fees they charge applicants. Ontario charges some of the lowest fees in Canada... do the math.

The year is 2009 and I can see my friend in canda when i speak to her live these days.....so why does the mail have to be involved???? It was a computerised exam...therefore shouldn't it be easy for the CNA to use computers to give out results??? just a thought.......

It all comes back to money. It costs a LOT of money to set up that sort of system and the CNA is not funded by any agency or company but by the membership fees submitted by the provinces on behalf of their registrants and the fees charged for the exams. CNA doesn't get all of the $600 that candidates in BC paid, either, they get about half. The rest is spent on renting hotel ballrooms for the exams to be written in. You can criticize us all you want, but this is how we do it and those of us who have always lived here just deal with it.

I wasn't criticizing...I was merely discussing....yes a computer system may cost a lot of money to set up to give members better access to results/info etc....but you have to speculate to accumulate, they wouldn't have to employ the staff to sort through the results every year in each province would they?

And it's funny but I don't remember sitting my exam in a hotel ballroom.....it was a cold warehouse type place with no heating, barely no bathroom facilities...nowhere to buy refreshments from and we were all chucked out in the cold for an hour in the lunch break......the poorest conditions for any exam I have ever done!!!!

Is the passing score really 142? I remember the exams were 149 items each.

They use some questions as experimental questions for the next exam and don't count for the present one I think.

Yes...it makes perfect sense...remember that each exam has a different level difficulty, that is what the CNA explains. So the passing score can vary from 59-68% Also remember that the experimental questions are not taken into consideration and they are about 50 to 60 questions.

Thanks for the info Eboutro. Yeah, if 60 questions were experimental then 142 out of 238 will be 60%
