Anybody who will be taking the CRNE on October 5, 2011, please post your comments and suggestions here like making a study group, sharing notes, meeting at the library or anything that will help the examinees pass the examination. Thanks!

Hi :)

I wrote the Oct. 2011 CRNE for the first time in london and got my results in conestoga (just outside of waterloo) this morning and passed! :)

This is what I did:

I postponed writing (all my peers were writing in June) because I didn't feel ready. I started reading the mosbys book (the orange one) but I found it went into too much detail (they aren't going to ask you the anatomy of the eye). I went to a prep course (2 day) in toronto and found that Very helpful - especially the 4 hour mock exam. I found my weaknesses (maternity nursing)and my strengths. I made a binder with 4 dividers - one for each competency and put relevant articles and study notes in each one. I took both the online CNA readiness tests online and got over 80 on each. For all the questions I got wrong on those I wrote them out (with the rationale) and reviewed concepts I didn't know (aka I read the whole shock chapter in the med-surg book). I am sorry if this is kind of scattered. If anyone would like amore detailed prep plan feel free to PM me. Take very good care everyone.

congrats to all who passed :) ... just wondering if your status automatically changes once they mailed out the results though you haven't received your results yet.. I'm from BC. thanks!

I just received news I passed! I'm an IEN from Michigan living in Simcoe, ON. Good luck to those still waiting!

Im from Nova Scotia and I have just received news I have passed

Congratulations!

Haven't received mine yet..

I'm discouraged, I failed again on my second take got 103/114! I'm doing the best of my ability to study for almost 8-10 hours a day all the review books (CNA book & online, Lippincott, Mosby, NEI review questions, nurses2canada online exam. It didn't work! Maybe I need a review class. Maybe the information that I study was not up to date as CPR was changed from ABC (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) to CAB (Compression, Airway Breathing). I only learned this after the exam! I did it with self review. Can anybody recommend a better CRNE review class in Toronto?

i`m in Mississauga, I passd, God has not let me down yet! I will forever praise Him. I am an IEN from Michigan!

I am sorry to hear that, this was my second time writing, and thankfully I passed. Once again I am very sorry for everyone that didn't. All I can say is hang in there, you have come this far, I know you all can do it. What I did was take the primed education crash course. I was really struggling with health and wellness, and they told me to review my community nursing from perry and pottery. Just know the theoretical concepts of community nursing, and apply them to the questions. By concepts I mean social determinants of health, primary, secondary, tertiary levels of care. Know how to assess a community, i.e. survey the community, statistics, resource available in the community, and structures. The big thing about community nursing is community involvement and building. Remember patient safety is your priority, and that can be applied to any situation, whether it's violence, ABC's, seizures, etc. Try and apply those concepts to the questions on the test. I know you have limited time, but keep them on the back of your head when answering questions.

I only had a bit of trouble in the changes in health competencies. So what primed suggested was make a chart of a disease or a chronic illness. On the chart it should have your own definition, how to assess it, how to treat it, diagnostics, discharge planning. Now keep in mind safety concerns always. I know this is probably redundant for you guys, but it's so important to just keep doing it. The big thing on competency is recognizing the priority, and recognizing "what would a new grad do". You have to recognize that we don't the experience yet so you have to keep that perspective, even though you've probably experience a scenario in your practice already.

I think from the last test I was not prepared, I should've waited until October, but I wanted to get it over with. As I was going through questions, I realize I was not reading them carefully. What I did during the test was wrote down things I need to remind myself to do write on the booklet. LOL, I remember writing, BREATHE, READ QUESTIONS IN YOUR HEAD CAREFULLY, MOVE ON TO THE NEXT QUESTION IF YOU DONT KNOW IT, THINK LIKE A BRAND NEW GRAD, PT SAFETY. I also memorized the ABG values and wrote them on my booklet. I think if you write down what you need to remind yourself that you will do it. It helped me, now I am only suggesting this, because everybody is different. I was also brought lozenges, cuz four hours is a long time, so I needed sugar and energy, so I think it's a good idea to have something.

Wow that was long winded, I am sorry. I really hope for all of you to be successful. KEEP FIGHTING, you really have come this far and you should congratulate yourselves for making it through nursing school! GOOD LUCK!

I just have one more thing, don't study so much, or if you are going to, please TAKE BREAKS, I know myself I can't even sit down and read a book for more than an hour, I need constant breaks. I know myself that if I am not getting the content it's time to take a break, and please incorporate self care always!

Hey it doesn't change right away, I just got my passing results today, and I checked online and it stills ays provisional.

BAsed from the information you shared, you possess the knowledge about nursing but how about the test taking strategies? maybe you have to change your approach in attacking the questions. Focus on what is being asked, don't detour or take any other considerations.

If you feel like taking classess, why not. Review classes build up confidence. as of now free your mind and give sometime for yourself to think that would help you.

PM me if you need some help.

I was unsuccessful for my second time on October 5th, 2011 (107/114) and like everyone else I DID a lot of reading, answering questions and taking prep course with PRIMEMED in Kingston. even a fellow RN studied with me for couple of weeks. Still looking forward for my third and final attempt (but scared to death)

I will write my final in June 2012 because obviously I have no time to study enough for February exam. Its only 2.5 months left till February 2012 and I am planning to work just to pay my bills. So june 2012 it is. You know its kinda frustrating seeing your friends working full time already and myself cant pass the exam for the second straight time.

I will do some things differently now: I already signed up for Toronto School of Health RN prep course, will download those prep infor for RN exam from FreshNurse website, and going to study again and again for 6 hours per day with ZERO distractions. Well, Something you have give up right??? whatever it takes to pass it.

** For those who passed, DO you studied alone or with a group of two/three people? Is it helpful to study as a group?

** And also, is the exam harder in June? Thanks

I was so stressed last night while reading everybody's postings about passing and not making it. I knew I was going to get my results today so first thing today, I and my wife went to church. When I got home, sure enough the envelope was in and I PASSED! Thank God for all the blessings. To everybody who passed congratulations; and for those who has not made it yet, don't lose hope. Pray hard! It helps.

For myself, I went through the 3rd, 4th and 5th editions of CNA prep books, I read up on my child and maternity nursing because I found that this was one of my weaknesses. I also read up on my potter and perry skills book. I likewise took a prep course which was run by the University of Toronto nursing school. This helped me identify my weaknesses.
