Critical Care Fellowship

Published

Hey everyone!

NSLIJ posted a critical care fellowship on their career page. Just thought I would spread the word. It says its supposed to start in January so they are probably gonna go pretty fast with it since we're in December already. Good luck!

Thanks Toussaint03! I applied but who knows... I am beginning to wonder if my resume ever gets to real eyes or does it end up in outer 'NSLIJ' space or something? I have been applying for almost a year and not even a phone call :(. Anyway, I will not stop but keep applying.

Oh, how was your second interview for the OR program?

Yea I know right! It was ok I got asked a question about which nursing theory I would use in caring for patients in the OR and was like *****!?! But other than that it was ok. Its been a week and a couple of days and I haven't heard anything so far so I'm starting to apply to other jobs again just in case so we'll see I guess. Thanks for asking!

I sure hope and pray we get these RN jobs. That's all I want for Christmas

Hello everyone!! I am dying to know how to start the application process for these fellowships?! I feel like if I apply online I am just going to fall through the cracks! I am also graduating in December and know students who are already interviewing! How can this be??! I thought you had to pass your boards first?? Any tips would be great! Also PS - I see a fellowship posted for critical care at Southside Hospital January 2015 if you are interested!! I am unable to apply since I cant take my boards till first week in February :( Good luck!

JLB, the only way it seems to get in this fellowship is to have worked there or done externship there. I tried emailing a recruiter whos email i found through google searching...used many trial and error keywords. The only reply I got is "Please apply online" which I had already done. I have hospital experience (not in Critical Care) but i never get calls from NSLIJ. I think you should just wait until you get your license. They will not consider people without license as there are so many with license applying. They have these fellowships 3 times a year. The students who are already interviewing likely had an internship there or worked there in some capacity...in NYC with so many experienced and new grads with licenses seeking jobs i doubt they would recruit students that have no license yet unless they have a connection. (btw, i too detest the need to have a connection to get a job...so unfair. But theres nothing we can do about it. Also i got my current job with a city hospital by having no connection, just applying online. NYC HHC is more open to new grads).

Yea so pretty much you just have to keep an eye out and apply to them when they are posted and hope you get a call. I did an externship with them as well as my preceptorship in my senior year of nursing with them as well. But there's another post about the fellowship and the person who wrote it said he had no connections and got a call back so who knows how they do it to be honest. I'd say apply when you can and try and stay positive throughout the process because it definitely is hard waiting for call backs especially when it feels like everyone around you is working already. I would also say while you wait take classes that make you more appealing like I took ACLS and IV certification. I graduated in may but still have nothing so its really all about timing and hopefully it doesn't take too long!

BTW the north shore Manhasset critical care fellowship for January has been reposted for any of you who missed it

Did your colleague have anything in his resume that stood out? Did he have any relevant experience? Just wondering. I just found out about the fellowship today, according to the onlinepost the deadline is tomorrow so I hope it isn't too late. I spend so much money on certifications and did so much volunteering that I don't know what else to do. No calls...nothing. :( I am hoping maybe this fellowship could give me some luck. I wish the best for everyone though

Um I'm not sure about the pertinent experiences. He has a post about the fellowship I'm sure you can ask him about that. I didn't know there was a deadline for it but if you can still apply then you def should!

Thanks for the tips MissJessRN, I agree, I am finding that they only want to speak with you if you have a license. That being said, I have been speaking to many people who are in close contact with those in the fellowships now, and they all absolutely HATE it! They don't feel properly prepared and state that the culture in the departments is terrible... I am kind of upset by this as I was seriously looking forward to applying for this at some point!! Has anyone heard positive things about the fellowship from anyone who was/is in there??
