CPMC, UCSF, Kaiser

U.S.A. California

Hi:

I'm a new grad looking for a RN position in the SF area. Does anybody have any thoughts on these hospitals. Specifically which unit would you recommend for someone who is starting. For CPMC, is anybody familiar with 1E or 4N?

For UCSF, can anyone recommend a unit at Mt. Zion? For Kaiser, is anyone familiar with 6South? What about the Labor and Delivery unit? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

1E is at the Davies Campus and 4N is at the Pacific Campus. I work on 6S at the Pac Campus on the Transplant floor. I LOVE it there! Great staff, great benefits, and AWESOME pay. I am a recent new grad myself (graduated in May 2005). I honestly believe you would love it there, too. PM me if you need contact information or if you are interested in the transplant floor. There are openings on my unit now.

SF Kaiser L&D is terrific. I did clinicals there in 2000. Pay is great in this town and lots of jobs available. Welcome to SF and good luck!

kaiser 6 south is med surg tele. 7S is also named m/s tele but is actually more med/surg. there is another unit on the 5th floor that is more cardiac tele, i.e. post cabg pts etc.

I'm wondering ..... in your hospital, is there a difference in pay between tele nurses and L&D ? I'm in tele right now but is considering L&D.

thanks.

Most hospitals pay all nurses the same. Even hospitals (VA) that have tiered pay scales pay all "direct patient care" RNs the same.

i work at the L&D Cal campus at CPMC....i entered their new grad training program in July 2005 and it's simply the BEST because of the great teamwork and work environment among the coworkers....even all the docs are supportive and encouraging!

Hello--

I am just finishing the L&D training program at Mills-Peninsula in Burlingame and am thinking about finding some per diem work in the next few months and would love CPMC b/c I know it gets some higher risk stuff (since we transport to you a lot) and would stay in the Sutter system. Do you know if there are any per diem spots open on your unit? How much experience do your managers like to see in per diem people?? Thanks for the advice.

hi there

i know for a fact that our L&D manager aren't hiring anytime soon because we are getting overstaffed here....i talked to a few coworkers and they are also wanting to switch to per diem ... candidates are choosen by seniority here...i think the best way to find out is to contact our manager directly. If u would like her name, feel free to PM me.

Hi Luilui

Are you totally overstaffed with a hiring freeze? I am thinking of moving out to SF - my daughter lives there. I have 10yrs L&D, many years of MB, ACLS, NRP instructor and of course BLS. I would be interested in full time 12 hr shifts, nights ok.

Thanks

I've worked at UCSF Medical Center, main campus though, from 2002-2004. I've only been in the pediatric ICU and they have a GREAT new grad program and great pay with all the benefits and trimmings! The only thing is, it might be a slightly overwhelming place to start just starting off fresh, since it is the ICU. It's intense, but if you like the challenge, working there is very rewarding!

the last i heard from my manager, she told me we are not hiring anymore. i'm not sure how long this hiring freeze may last, but we are definately overstaffed here. we also work 8 hour shifts, not 12's. good luck.
