How do I get to pay only 29% tax....I am single and pay 37% fed. tax and am lucky to live in a state with no state income tax... I think those numbers are a little off, or I am just being really screwed when it comes to tax... I have a single friend in the U.K. and her tax is alot lower than mine... She pays in about 29.5% per year!! which is still high, but she does have medical coverage at no cost out of pocket!! If we could have all the people in the country covered, I wouldn't care if I payed the same as i do now or even a little more... Insurance and pharm. companies have made enough money on the backs of americans..enough is enough!!! They can make less money. If they don't want to do that, then let them go somewhere else ...They both have sucked the medical industry dry.. It has to change.. How many pt's do we have to see that can't afford their medicines before we as a country do something about it?

37% is not possible considering the highest federal income bracket for a single person is 35%. That is only for income >370K. Even if you made 370K your total tax rate would be about 30%.

Let's assume you make 80K. You should really be paying ~20% total. Perhaps you should get an accountant. Sounds like you are getting the shaft

The best part about your posts citing TPM and John Stewart, is that while you criticize Rush Limbaugh, YOU rely on a far leftist website and a comedian as resources for what you believe to be factual knowledge. I guess dudes such as Coburn, Kyl, Ryan, Burr etc... do not present an audible alternative on these reputable sources. Don't get me wrong, the guy really is funny. I just wouldn't use him to persuade my argument.

FYI -Jon Stewart is not just a comedian -apparently he was voted most trusted anchorman this week! Hmmmmm.....

Actually, wowza, with all of my combined income, investments, and property.. I do pay about 35 to37% ...and most nurses in the area where i work make over 100k a year...not bragging, but since you want to try and figure/guesstimate how much i make a year...your figures were way off, but how i arrived at my tax bracket was at 37% with all my mutualfunds, stocks, investments...etc... I as well as other nurses i know who are single pay through the nose in taxes... All i was saying was, if we are going to pay that much in taxes then I would hope someone could benefit through a free healthcare system/ socialized system... Heck, I would be willing to smile every april, when i make the check out to the lovely IRS, instead of crying...lol If we had healthcare for every man, woman, and child in the U.S. That was all I was getting at in my post.. I didn't mean to confuse you with ..how was it that bush said..oh yeah...FUZZY MATH!!! not my intention at all... LOL.. Not trying to offend any ones politics.. Thanks!

Ok - so you dont mind paying more MONEY in order to get a SERVICE. Why not pay that money that you would pay in taxes to a private insurer for insurance? I love it when we talk taxes and there is always one or two people that say "I dont mind paying higher taxes if i get something for it", there is always at least one - its like they wouldnt shell out money on their own accord to pick up private insurance but if the government forces them to, they dont have a problem with it? Does this make any rational/logical sense at all? By the way, nothing stops you from writing a check to the federal government, you can, should you choose, pay more income taxes and make a donation to uncle sam at the end of the year if you think that he can spend your money better than you can. I dont know, perhaps some people actually would rather give the government money and expect them to spend it rather than spending that money themselves - for me, it makes no sense whatsoever.

First of all, a single-payer system would be much cheaper. And secondly, I've one of those pesky "pre-existing conditions", hence the cheaper aspect. It makes perfect sense to me. It's my guess that you don't trust the government with your healthcare. Fine, you don't have to because nothing currently being proposed will do away with private insurance companies.

I, on the other hand, don't trust private insurance companies.

It doesn't have to make sense for you.

Why not socialize housing and food as well? Why not socialize higher learning? Lets just socialize everything while were are at it? Why not right? Its called I like to have money in my paycheck after taxes are taken out. If you like the government taking all your money why dont you just give more during tax time nothing is stopping you.

Ah yes, the slippery slope. Just because our government might take a minor role in health care delivery, doesn't mean that we are going to become the USSR.

No it doesnt make rational logical sense -- And what kind of government insurance are you going to get from Nancy Pelosi? You probably will pay less money, premium wise, for your socialist insurance but you will no doubt in the end be paying higher taxes and if the care you get from your bloated government insurance is anything like UK or Canada you can keep it. .

Canada's system is pretty comparable to ours. The only difference is it's much cheaper and no one files bankruptcy for getting sick or injured.

GCTMT cuts through all the rhetoric!

No way as a nurse you pay 37% income tax rate. The rates are tiered up to a point then the money after that begins to be taxed at 37% but your actual federal rate would be lower than 37% especially since you claim to pay no state income tax. Pharmacy companies create new drugs take away the profit and you take away the incentive for new drugs.

How do I get to pay only 29% tax....I am single and pay 37% fed. tax and am lucky to live in a state with no state income tax...
